Hi Jimbo

It's Brigitte Cuypers.

For some reason the WTA and Fed Cup are wrongly using Brigette. The New York Times consistently uses Brigitte, as does World Tennis and the WTa Media Guide.

Cuypers retired in 1979, so her marriage comes after that date.

GRANT, MABEL
South Africa
Born cica 1871
Died after 1940
Married Edmund Neville Nevill (1849-1940) on 4 June 1894. He wrote under the name Neison.
2 sons, 1 daughter named Maud.

She is listed as H Grant is many sources, a good indication that Mabel is a nickname.

Probably a native of Natal, whose championship she won a record 8 times. She won every title with one exeception from 1885 to 1893. The lone outlier was 1890-when she lost in a 3 set final. Best known as 1st winner of the South African Chmps (1891-1894) Mr Neville played at the Bera Club in Natal. Her spouse wrote the first English book on the Moon and was director of the Natl Observatory from 1882-1910. He also introduced tennis to Natal. The couple later resettled in England, and Edmund died in Eastbourne, leaving her a widow.

Your help is needed Jimbo:

Ucci Manzutto Romeo Del Castello
Italy

I see her listed as Ucci Manzutto a lot. What do we make of Romeo Del Castello?
"Romeo Del Castello" is a surname, and I didn't know that Ucci Manzutto had married, probably, a man with this surname.
I have searched now in internet and I have found that in Sicily there is a noble family "Romeo Del Castello" that produces wine for centuries. I wonder if this family has some tie with Ucci Manzutto!
She, on the contrary, came from Fiume (the present Rijeka, now in Croatia), a city where came from other 2 italian tennis players: Orlando Sirola e Gianni Cucelli (born Giovanni Kucel).

From the London "Times", 13 August 1896: "The marriage between Mr Arthur Kirby, eldest son of Colonel Sir Alfred Kirby, and Miss Amy Ford Wilson, third daughter of Mr John Walter Wilson, of the Paragon, Blackheath, and Oatlands Park, took place yesterday at All Saints' Church, Blackheath. The ceremony was performed by Dr Ker Grey, and there was a very large congregation. Afterwards a reception was held at the Paragon. Later in the day the bride and bridegroom left for Scarborough."
--

Given that Amy Wilson was twice runner-up in the singles event at the Kent Championships in Beckenham, and given that Blackheath is also located in Kent, and also used to be the location for a tennis tournament, it is extremely likely that this Amy Ford Wilson, later Mrs Kirby, is the tennis player of yore. She also honeymooned in Scarborough around the time when the North of England Championships tournament used to be held there.

In later years Amy Wilson Kirby lived in South Africa where she won, amongst other things, the singles title at the South African Championships no less than six times (the record for that event).

Several sources mention Mrs H.A. Kirby, so it seems likely that Amy Wilson's husband's first name was not Arthur.
