as soon as i really really begin to get into tennis, van roost goes before i can fully fall in love. how great was she?
and now anke, who i feel i have been deprived of. i think in 3 years i have seen 1 or 2 matches of hers on tv, and the 1 she was not playing so well in, shanking a lot of balls and it was just bad but alas, anke will be missed(minus her beating kaia in the first round in germany/austira this year)
i'm with you guys!
time has blown by since her announcement and it's incredibly sad to see her go. she's #1 in my book for over a decade and i doubt any other player will ever be able to excite me as much as Anke.
there were times where she was her biggest enemy, and sadly she was never able to reach her full potential.
but don't cry too much for her guys, she's an attractive twenty-something multi-millionnaire, willing to finally enjoy herself away from hotels, tennis courts and the gym. and she seems genuinely happy with her decision.
btw, 2 weeks ago Anke was on a german tv show, and they aired a sort of home story report of Anke and her gigantic new MANSION in Mallorca, Spain. it was beautiful and Anke is one cool chick!
i'm sure she'll manage her life away from the courts! but what about us fans...
Thanks Anke Fan
Its easy to forget sometimes that the main person this affects is Anke (and not us crazy Ankeholics! ). Its great to hear her sounding so positive and looking so happy about her decision. I guess we should (try) and be happy for her.
BTW, what was the TV show she was on?
God....after all that I need those tissues even more!
Babsi said on a website chat that Anke will definately not play in Australia, so lets cross everything that she manages to qualify for Munich. It would be a real shame if she played her final match at a tier 3 in Luxembourg (sorry to all those Luxembourgers out there! Is that the correct terminology?!).
GO ANKE, give us one final cheer!
i remember havin talked to you at the sanex board under 'anke rules' or something...
the tv show aired live the sunday before Filderstadt and it was a sports show. i'm afraid i don't remember the name...
anyway it was a nice show, and Anke cooked! since she's livin in Ausria, some Austrian dish (with the host of a sports show)...
pretty bizarre but quite funny...
the report showed Anke shoppin at a local market, playin tennis! (on her house courts), playin golf with her manager, walkin the beach, playin with her dog, mountainbiking, exercising, etc.
it was lovely and i caught it solely by accident! lucky me!
the audience gave her a standing ovation when she left the show and i cried a little!
Rock On Anke! we'll never forget!
Welcome to the board Go Anke, and nice contributions to the thread! Thanks for the TV show report.
I am keeping everything crossed (I must be some sort of contortionist ) - she must make Munich, she must!! It would be nice if we could keep this topic going regardless of what happens. (But she will make it!! )
Optimism station - let's take those tissues away!!
