Random thought.

Emma is way more tanner in person then what you see in pictures lol
I think that Emma's half Asian genes give her higher melanin concentration in skin than in 100% Caucasian skin, so I am guessing, with the similar amount of sun exposure, Emma would get more pronounced tanning responses than Katie or other Caucasian players.

If Emma has aspirations of being at the top of the sport and going deep in tournaments, these are the sorts of score lines she needs to be dishing out more regularly early on to players in and around the top 100.

Conserving as much energy as possible when necessary for bigger challenges and being ruthlessly efficient when she has to be.

In her defence, since she's came back in 2024 from those surgeries, she's 13-3 against opponents ranked 90+ and the three matches that she's lost to Sun, Bucsa and Yafan Wang, have all been 3 setters.

In the 13 matches she's won, she's dropped 1 set, dished out 5 bakery products, and lost a total of 75 games, which averages around at 5.8 games a match.

The TLDR is that Emma rarely gets beaten by players of that level, but performances like this will help improve her reputation on the tour.

To the EE folks attending tomorrow, you might want to camp out at the gate before it opens, and rush to court one to grab your seat, knowing what happened on Monday :dog:

I enjoyed watching her and Katie play today @ Queens. Katie's game was a little more 'hard work' as it was so close, but I knew she would win in the end. Emma was strong and in control. With this confidence and belief she should win the next match. I saw the first set of the match and think Emma has a good chance of challenging Sramkova and taking it all. Good signs from our girl. I think the stream of confidence and self belief is back. :)

The magic of grass. 🥰

While watching her create easy winners in her match against Bucsa, I had two thoughts.
1. It’s so much easier for her to create winners on the grass than on the clay , both because she can create pace and hit through more easily, and because her key weapon, the ability to take the ball early, is even more potent on grass.
2. The new coaching setup seems to be working well, in terms of her going aggressively for the serve and forehand. But then I remembered that Mark Petchey didn’t improve her serve and FH by changing her technique or something. He changed her racket (to be heavier) and the strings. And she said he’s not a technical coach but good with setting up patterns during practice. I was a little surprised by the “not technical” part but I guess she should know. Lol. So maybe he and Cavaday complement each other well. I think she will have talked to both about what their strengths are and why she thinks having both of them would be the best.

Maybe the "not technical" was shaped by her recent experience of Vlado. Petchey seems more technical than any other tennis commentator. He also expressed unhappiness at the look of her forehand at the AO and it has improved since he took over.
