I want greatest doubles players, not teams. So, it will be like this: Would you consider Navratilova a better doubles player than Shriver? Would you consider Zvereva a better doubles player than Fernandez? Would you consider Hingis a better doubles player than Novotna or Sanchez-Vicario. I guess what I am asking is what player(s) would've had equal success with another partner had the one they had great success with never played (e.g. Navratilova/Shriver, Zvereva/Fernandez). I am only asking for Open era because the results were more carefully recorded. So, how would you rank: Navratilova, Hingis, King, Zvereva, Novotna, etc.?

I'd say:

1. Navratilova
2. Hingis
3. Zvereva

And of course

4. Arantxa!!! (she´s got GS wins with Novotna, Rubin and Sukova - 61 dubs titles with 18 different partners )

Here are some stats.

Novotna (76 career doubles titles, 12 DGS, 4 MDGS)
-Looking at Novotna's stats I see she had a lot of success with various partners. Some rough stats
(w/Hingis: 7 titles, 3 DGS)
(w/Davenport: 5 titles, 1 DGS, 1 Masters)
(w/S.Vicario: 15 titles, 3 DGS, 1 Masters)
(w/Neiland: 11 titles)
(w/Sukova: 15 titles, 4 DGS)
(w/G. Fernandez: 4 titles, 1 DGS)
Novotna also won tournaments with: Navratilova, Zvereva, Pierce, Likhovtseva, Suire, Kohde-Kilsch, Strnadova, de Swardt, Boogert

Martina Hingis (34 career double titles, 8 DGS)
-Hingis also has won numerous titles w/various partners. Rought stats.
(w/Novotna: 7 titles, 3 DGS)
(w/Kournikova: 10 titles, 1 DGS, 2 Masters)
(w/Sukova: 3 titles, 1 DGS)
(w/Pierce: 2 titles, 1 DGS)
(w/Zvereva: 2 titles, 1 DGS)
(w/Lucic: 2 titles, 1 DGS)
Hingis also has won titles with: Davenport, G. Fernandez, S.Vicario, Tauziat

Natasha Zvereva (79 career doubles titles, 18 DGS, 2 MDGS)
-Some rough stats from Natasha.
(w/G. Fernandez: 36 titles, 14 DGS, 2 Masters)
(w/Neiland: 14 titles, 2 DGS)
(w/Shriver: 2 titles, 1 DGS)
(w/Hingis: 2 titles, 1 DGS)
(w/Davenport: 10 titles, 1 Masters)
(w/S.Vicario: 4 titles)
Also won titles w/Kournikova, Carlsson, Savchenko, Kodhe-Kilsch, Pierce

*Correct me if any info is wrong. I got all this from the Sanexwtatour.com site*

I really miss the days of the regularly competing great pairings. Navratilova was the best doubles player ever. Zvereva is right up there too followed by the likes of GiGi Fernandez, Novotna and Helena Sukova.

1.Martina Navratilova
2.Natasha Zvereva
3.Gigi Fernandez

Although Martina Hingis is my favorite, I can't compute her the likes of Navratilova or Zvereva. AT least NOT YET!

Depends on what we are talking about, who are the greatest players or who have the greatest achievements.

In both cases Navratilova is #1, undoubtedly.
In terms of results, Zvereva is clear #2, but she is a doubles specialist. In terms of playing abilities, Hingis is , IMHO, clear #2. Given that she is a singles specialist.

Given that I've only watched tennis since 96, I haven't seen many of the earlier doubles players, but given Martina N's record, she is #1 in my book. And as many other believe, Natasha and Martina H, and my #2 and #3 picks, but I don't know the order. While Natasha has greater results and more titles than MArtina, Martina has been able to win titles with practically anybody (shown by winning the aus open with lucic - who'd NEVER played a doubles main draw on the wta before and wasn't ranked!)

So:

1 - Navratilova
2 - Zvereva/Hingis

Then other great doubles players I've seen include Neiland, Sukova, Novotna and Sanchez - but I wouldn't know how to rank them...

Navratilova undoubtedly..

But Hingis is up there, she has a brilliant record, she has already won the grand slam in doubles...

It's a sad statement when the past champions are forgotten. People should really know the history of the game and it's players. It's nice to name your favorite player as the greatest, but sometimes it's not deserved. I think Martina Hingis is a great doubles player, but to pick her over Rosie Casals, a woman who has won over 100 doubles in the open era alone is laughable. Betty Stove is another great player. The most laughable of all is to pick Martina Hingis over Billie Jean King!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think when Martina's career is over her doubles result will be among the greats. At 21 yrs old she has already 7 slams and alot of different titles with different players. She was also the youngest player ever to win a slam and was doubles #1, considering shes a single specialist.

Obviously Navratilova.

However, Zvereva is not far behind at all, nor is Fernandez.

I often think that ASV is a highly underrated doubles player - Novotna seems to get all the credit for their team ability just because she was a natural serve volley player.
