Great match, great atmosphere ( I've said that before, I know).
Only one statistic was really of note in the first set:
Break point won:
Amelie 0/1
Kim 1/1
Midway through the first set Kim was dancing round her backhand
worship: Steffi Graf) and hitting some great forehands. She finished the set with a marvelous forehand down the line.
Second set - Kim started to miss a bit more, partly because Amelie was just sooo consistent and was also varying the pace of play to much. She can do sooo much with that backhand. It was interesting to see her use the looping topspin shots
worship: Amanda Coetzer and Conchita MArtinez) so effectively. Again breakpoints won was the vital statistic:
Kim 1/1
Kim 2/4 (The two she missed were setpoints, which Kim saved with some great serving).
Final set, well it started promisingly for Kim with a love hold, but then she doublefaulted at 1-1 30-40 (having led 30-0 I think) giving Amelie the 2-1 lead. Next game Amelie saved a breakpoint to lead 3-1 and never looked back. Amelie was playing really really well, forcing Kim to go for more and more. Amelie finally won the match with a great backhand down the line on her first match point.
Really wonderful match!
Doubles final - Safina and Srebotnik looked the stronger team from the 1st point. Krajicek and Foretz were missing too much and in the end it was very comfortable for Safina / Srebotnik 6-1 6-1.
And then it was off to Brussels Airport for me for the flight back to Dublin. Bad to be back LOL but the memories are truly special!
