The case of Caroline Dolehide. Why she did not break through, did you also believe she'd be better?

Her current ranking is #176, was ranked as high as #102 in July 2018.

When I first saw her playing tennis back in 2017 (?) I thought this girl has a lot of potential, big forehand and serve stuck with me but somehow the results did not come with the highlight being a Quebec City QF years ago, neither results in terms of a singular big run or some very good consistency at least on ITF-circuit.

Is this a lack of fitness holding her back and ... well, big boobs? :hysteric:

Recently she keeps getting eliminated in Q-draws of WTA/GS level events by the likes of Seone Mendez.

I thought she was overweight. Never a good sign in an aerobic sport
I havent watched her much since last Wimbledon when she almost beat Vesnina/Kudermetova
Should have a decent doubles career if she has a good partner

Being well-endowed often will make a woman look more overweight than she is. Dolehide looks quite fit right now so I don't think that's the issue. Does well in doubles and I agree with Perun: I thought she'd have better singles results than she does. Only 24 so it's possible she still has room to grow into a WTA top 100 player mainstay. With the serve you'd think it's possible.

I saw her play World Team Tennis last summer and her chest looked much smaller. Now I don't claim to know anything, except her appearance was definitely different. I am not sure if she simply became more fit, or if in fact she had breast reduction. One of things that I first noticed about her was the fact that she hit the ball so hard, and of course her upper body seemed to work to her advantage. Now, either through diet or surgery, that advantage seems to be gone.

I too had expected, and hoped for better results for Dolehide. I don't know if she's another player destined to play her entire career on the ITF tour or not. Maybe posters on TF know more....... I was aware of Halep's situation, I think I heard it mentioned once and that seems like years ago. Obviously it paid off for Halep.

Big serve alone just isn't enough these days, she has the same issue as Parks. I don't think she is fat though, it's just a lot of muscles. There is a reason she can serve 195+ km/h. She has a lot of muscle power in her arms.

I saw her play Genie and she was absolutely terrible so no I'm not surprised.

^ Yes - although the post above is from a year or so ago, when I saw Dolehide this week in Guadalajara, I didn't recognize her. She seems much more fit now than the last time I saw her, which was admittedly 2 or 3 years ago.
Navarro seems to have adopted a similar fitness philosophy. And it seems to be paying off for both of them, as their recent/current results indicate.

I always saw potential in Dolehide (at least on HCs). It's great that she realised some of it in Mexico going on a big run, I missed all the matches in Guadalajara though. And yes, she had a breast reduction but I suspect it was done a while ago already.

Maybe she read my thread and it got herself going. :oh:

That serve is difficult to face on both sides of the court, she can get very sharp angle flights. It gives her the freedom on the next shot if her opponent doesn't get a good racket on it. She gave Halep a good scare in March 2018 Indian wells.

I think the boob reduction will help her (and generally would ease pressure on her upper body and back outside of tennis).
