My definition of a big title is who you beat in order to get to the championships. The easiest way to do this is to look at how many points (round and quality points) the champion earned at each tournament and comparing them to other tournament winners.

I have left the point totals from 2003 and 2004 so we can compare the tournament winners from 2005.

IMO there are 7 events that matter most:

Australia
Indian Wells
Miami
Rolland Garros
Wimbledon
US Open
Tour Championships

Any other tournament isn't even CLOSE to this status. So far we have:

Australia: Serena
Indian Wells: Clijsters
Miami: Serena

And we will have:

RG: Clijsters
Wimbledon: Serena
US Open: Capriati
Tour Championships: Clijsters

;)

where's Lothlorien, if you don't mind me asking?

Jennifer is going to win the USO? Good God, I hope not....

Oh God, haven't changed that in a year. It's an elf-city in The Lord of the Rings. As soon as something clever strikes me I'm changing it.

And Jennifer needs my pity vote. ;)

Hmmm, I understand that some tournaments are obviously bigger than others but I was interested (read bored at the time) and I thought it would be interesting to see how all the tournaments stack up against each other points wise.

I added Grand Slams, Tier III to V tournaments as well.

I love these recap posts!!!

Serena is just so amazing. Even if she isn't my favorite, I can't help but appreciate how amazing she is. She is ruling the tour so far this year judging by this list. And this list really tells the story of which players have shined the most so far this year. The story is even more interesting when you think about the players in the finals of these same tournis. Semifinalists also show you how the rankings make sense. I would love to see all of the tournis compiled in one list with winner, finalist and semifinalists. I'm far too lazy to do it, but I'm also bored right now, so maybe I'll start working on it.... I love seeing some of the Tier 3-5 winners on this list especially. Ai and Elena really stand out for me in the Tier 2 category!!! Those were great match for them!!! I think I still have them on tape somewhere...Maybe I'll go watch them win those big titles again! ;)

I love this breakdown! It is interesting to find that Myskina's Tier 4 victory in Sarasota was actually more significant in terms of points than all but one of the Tier 3 victories. Elena Dementieva's amazing win stands out, and the weakness of the field in Tokyo which we all complain of is exposed! :)

This is a great way to look at the year with its various champions, and I hope you will prepare more charts like this again in coming months, Tennisace. Thanks, & here's some rep point for your effort. :)

Interesting Read! Sarasota was worth more than most of the Tier 3's, and  at Amelia Island!

:wavey: Tennisace, how have you been?

Yes, it's amazing for Vera to have the fifth biggest Tier III of 2003, considering THERE'S ONLY BEEN FIVE TIER III'S !!!

And MSN is being shitty to me

Eh ? What are you talking about ?

Oh, lol, that match...Well. I'd rather have 4 titles, a higher ranking in both the regular and race rankings, a GS quarter-final, and several wins over top 10 players, than one Tier III title and no wins over anybody ranked higher than 10. :)

Btw tennisace, cool thread
