from ESPN tennis message board. Please take a read.....

Indeed, so true even till now. Just notice how jealousy has driven many to the point of wishing some "washed up" players would come back to "save tennis from V & S domination" (another code word for "they are bad for tennis" seeing as they are winning the majors despite playing the least amount of tournaments.

Here is another one.... I read where some said it is bad for the sport as Serena played below par in the 1st wk of AO 09 and exploded the second wk to win the final. Well, isn't the game about winning in the first place? 10yrs from now, who cares how Serena played the 1st wk of AO 09; what ppl will remember is ....SERENA WON!!!

Of what good is playing great in all rounds before a slam final and then lose the final as woefully as Safina did? Surely, if the reverse was the case, Safina would be praised to the heavens by the hypocrites for "beating Serena" to win her 1st slam and reaching No.1 regardless of "how ugly" she might have played leading up to the final.

The question then, becomes...... since when is "playing brilliantly during a slam but failing to win it" the measure of greatness in tennis?

In soccer, winning is about putting the ball behind the net many times than your opponent does. It don't matter how brilliantly or ugly you played during the match. Coming up with the goods at the right time is what matters; if u can't do that within the alotted time, then u do not deserve to be a champion period!

Talk of things that REALLY make u go....hmmmm!!!

Maybe it's jealousy. Maybe its something else. Whatever. Those people are entitled to their feelings. Their problem is that, slowly, over the years, the excuses for those feelings have slowly been invalidated.

V&S used to be bashed for being nothing but power players. There was, in 1999-2001, some validity to that complaint. They literally knocked the rackets out of some opponents hands.

However, while the tour has gone big big power, V&S have morphed in all court players. Venus more so than Serena, but they both use a lot more topspin than flat shots, and Venus is the most effective volleyer in the top ten. (Not the best necessarily, but the most effective.)

That isn't going to win them more fans. Too much water under the bridge.

It's not. The measure is your past wins/slams and how well you play the mental side of the game. Serena is a champion and nobody, noone, nothing can or ever will change this fact. It's already written.
You're asking a question because some tool, had no answers.
I can't stand ESPN message board. Sometimes on a wrong day you'll find yourself up in there being all discombobulated. Honeychiled, they'll try their damndest to try to frustrate you, because Serena is allowing them no control. She just won slam 10 and it can't be changed. So they'll just try their best to throw salt on the Serena's win to make themselves feel a bit better. The fact is though, they'll not really going to feel any better. What I do now is debate with them a bit and laugh. Just throw the facts at em' and enjoy it when they piss on themselves. LMAO! :) :)

Are you really going to take the ESPN tennis message board seriously?

They hate everyone there! I've seen them hate on Justine, Sharapova, Jankovic, Federer, Nadal,...the list goes on. Most of them aren't even real tennis fans. They're just assholes trying to pick fights. And they save their biggest hate for players who are doing well at the moment.

In fact, the ESPN message boards in general are full of very hateful people. It has nothing to do with Serena or Venus and everything to do with the posters.
