As always, France has no players in the Top 100-200 range (well there is Ponchet at 195).
The only player that in hindsight was deserving of a WC in recent years is Fiona Ferro who is now Top 100.

Ponchet is still quite young so it can be argued that she is deserving of a WC. The rest are all no-hopers.

Undoubtedly though, most of them will receive a WC anyway, as every year. And also there will be people here claiming it's a waste of time to complain about WCs. But I will keep complaining about it!

So do you think there's anyone out of the usual suspects that will not get a (MD) WC this year?

And what will this complaining do? Nothing. The only solution is cutting the number of Wild Cards down, letting in more Direct Entries and Qualifiers. I think there should be 4WC's maximally at GS.

They have some promising juniors: Burel, Parry.
Also, I hope Bacsinszky gets a WC as a two time former SFist

I am very happy to complain about this every year because it is a farce, free money for sub-par tennis players. This year is looking particularly bad and I wonder what the FFT are going to do.

I am referring to the WCs as 'Free 50k', to emphasise the absurdity of these low talent tennis players receiving free money. My brief analysis below:

Firstly, Oceane Dodin (409) is an obvious choice for a MD WC, she has talent and proven herself on tour. There are also juniors with talent like Burel and Parry as previously mentioned, they can certainly strike a tennis ball.

However, how many other MD WC are there to dish out? ....The bar is low, very low:

Jessika Ponchet (195): Tenacious, average tennis player, poor technique, but did qualify for AO on her own and that is commendable. Free 50k highly likely based on ranking, also popular with FFT.
Chloe Paquet (230) : No more talented than Hesse, and achieved less in her career, but still better than other scrubs, highly likely free 50k.
Myrtille Georges (235): No personal hate, but Myrtille is an utter scrub picking up her FFT cheques wherever she can, free 50k still unlikely given the routine ITF losses throughout the year.
Amandine Hesse (240): Ordinary, no real weapons, but attractive and sometimes had decent results a long time ago. Likely free 50k.
Harmony Tan (263): Still young (21), made a SF of a 60k this year, based on that fact alone, FFT will desperately issue the free 50k.
Audrey Albie (286): Good ITF results recently. Free 50k highly likely.
Sherazad Reix (327): Actually a nice ball striker, but even if she were ranked 105, no free money for her, unpopular with FFT.
Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (345): Weaponless, would be a bad match up against any top 100 player, but young (20) and I feel she is popular with FFT, possible free 50k but probably unlikely.
Irina Ramialson (373): Not young, low level ITF regular, not worth free money.
Julie Gervais (390): See above.
Alize Lim (406): Very popular with FFT, photogenic and well connected, but can't play tennis that well. If she gets a main draw WC I will feel physically sick.

They are / were doing something different this year. They were planning to give a WC to the person highest in the Porsche race a week on Monday. At the moment, Ponchet leads that on 137 points, but Albie is on 134 and Paquet is on 104 and the only player still involved in an event this week (German W60) - not sure who is playing what next week, but it'll surely be one of those 3 taking that, unless someone picks up 40/50 points out of the blue.

There was also a mini race for points collected in French ITF events - the 80k event next week is the last of those and the last I saw, Albie had a commanding lead, but the link now says 'no longer found', so not sure if that has been scrapped, but with all this in mind, I'd be surprised if Ponchet, Albie and Paquet didn't get one. There's obviously one going to the USA and another to Australia, so there'll be 3 more up for grabs.

I hope talentless scrubs Hesse and Lim are done with receiving WC. That’s all.

Ponchet, Burel, Parry and Dodin should be locks. Then I guess Paquet and Georges just because there’s no one else and they won MD matches recently (to Kris Plis and McHale IIRC)

I can already see them giving WCs to Hesse, Ponchet, Paquet, and probably Harmony Tan.

At this point aside from maybe Ponchet giving one to Marion Bartoli might be less embarrassing. Currently Amelie Momo is not only fitter, but probably has a better ground game than Alize Lim.

The local Australian girls did really well with their WCs and Qs down under (in general) this year, I wonder if we'll see the French girls finally step it up.

I mean Bacsinszky is such an obvious WC specially with her story in this tournament but then it’s FFT so they probably rather wasting it on Hesse or any other hopeless local

It will be painful seeing her going through Qualifying when the competition for local WCs is specially dire this year.

I hope I’m wrong.

Paquet, Ponchet, Burel and Pary will probably get one, and it will be deserved. Albie will probably win one with her current results.

Only 2 left. Tan is in good form this year. So here's one. And probably Georges. Dodin is not getting anything sadly.

Others like Safarova and Bacsinsky deserve nothing. No need to waste a WC to players that didn't show particularly great form recently when you can give them to French prospects.

The thing that's so embarrassing about this situation is how bad French tennis is given the endless opportunities available to some players  These girls have gotten free money and occasionally basically free points from random fluke wins and still have never been able to use these advantages to elevate their level out of 25K scrubbery. At least some of the Australian and USA girls have taken advantage of their undeserved privileges :spit: The federation really needs to have a big look at their pathways.
