Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne to meet for No. 1

Henin-Hardenne reacts after winning her semifinal match. (AP) Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne set up a showdown for the No. 1 ranking and the Porsche Grand Prix title with straight-set semifinal wins Saturday. The Belgians will meet in the final Sunday, with the winner assured of leading the WTA Tour rankings. Clijsters replaced Serena Williams at No. 1 in August. Henin-Hardenne has a 5-1 record against Clijsters in 2003, including victories in the finals of the French Open and U.S. Open.

Wow that´s bad....not even if you take the finals only, it doesn´t pan out that way. It´s 4-1 in finals...maybe they are just foreboding..

I've noticed this error in the press a lot recently, but since they continually favor Justine in the H2H, I properly decided to let it be! ;)

As of today, how do they stand in terms of ranking points? Will Justine really grab the #1 if she wins tomorrow? I haven't been following the points lately and I'm hoping some good souls have.

Yes, Justine could take #1 with a win tomorrow. Either way, I imagine she'll take it by year-end, as she has enough points that she doesn't really need to beat Kim even once.
Thanks.

It looks like this year is turning into Juju's year! Oh boy! Multiple slams, tons of titles and #1 one step away! I just wish the "hand" thing didn't happen which would have made it a clean and successful year. I suppose her degree of success will dampen the snarl over that "hand" event as people will recognize it was just one faux-pas in a long march towards glory.

Justine, Serena and Kim have all had a great year.

A lot of people ignore Kim because she didn't win a GS this year but her record this year and her ranking speak for themselves :D

It's no more of a faux pas than the countless times any player sees a shot wrongly called in/out and says nothing. In those cases, and in this one, the player just kept her mouth shut and let the umpire do his/her job. I doubt Justine gives a damn, anyway.

Of course not.....I wonder if you´d be saying the same if it was Serena who did the "hand" thing though.

Not great for Kim....nothing more like Hingis was doing in ´00, only on a lesser scale.

Probably. At the time, I barely noticed it. Serena's not exactly the most sportsmanlike player around anyway... good for her.

It's better not to obsess over these little things. :)

Hmm, now it has become probably?! Why the sudden change?!

You can call Serena everything, that she doesn´t give credit, that she is this and that....but I don´t recall her ever doing what Justine did in a match.
