First kudos to Serena Williams, she's proved to those who thought she'd had it she's still a great champion, a force to reckon with at any tournament. You don't reach a grand slam final if you're not still a great player. Thank you for showing class in defeat.
But also thank you, Maria Shaparova, first of all by making the tennis tour more interesting: the more different winners, the better for it all.
And also thank you for showing up for what they are the idiots we have (more than some people say) at GM who should know a match is never won until it has been played. I won't be cruel enough to bump up all the rude and biased predictions we've had from the usual specialists. But I don't kid myself, the afore-mentioned idiots won't have learned any lesson today. They never will, since they're complete fools. So see you next time, at the next tournament. I wish you leaned some class from your idol though.
PS, please, Ballbuster, show us your new sig

Yes! This was a great day for tennis.
Damn, this must have hurt

Don´t be too excited about her win, the true haters are just waiting are just around the corners. Every time a new GS winner comes up, the more haters come up, it´s sad, but true...though it shows that Maria is on the right track ;)

Everybody deserves a lucky shot. Don't expect this to continue. The Domination Lives!!!!

There is another GEAR to be shifted.

You should have at least deleted your line about having to cheat to win over a Williams

was there ever any doubt about that? ;)
Nope :) Serena helped keep the spotlight on women's tennis and she will continue to do so with the likes of Maria, Karolina, Venus, Jennifer, Kim, etc.

If she can't shift into top gear for a Grand Slam final, when will she do it?

The Williams era is over, thank God!:D
when's your girl going to shift into gear and win another tournament? :tape:

Oh and I would thank all the people who beat her tail to keep you ...:tape: but that list is just way way way way too long.

Keep trying to pick I think it could be fun some back and forth you know you pick at a Williams loss and people pick at a Hantuchova loss. :bounce:

Well she got a damn sight closer than your beloved Venus did. At Eastbourne, Daniela beat Frazier (who the French Open Champion couldn't manage to beat), she beat Sprem (which your beloved Venus couldn't manage to do:lol: :haha: I really don't see what was so difficult in that:p ), she beat world #11 Sugiyama, she beat world #4 and Wimbledon semi-finalist Mauresmo and she was within 2 points of winning the Championship until Kuznetsova decided to wake up.

If your girls can't motivate themselves and shift gear when asked, there really is no hope for them. I'm more inclined to believe there is no next gear for them to shift up to, that was the best they could muster, a pathetic two tie-break loss to a 20 year-old ranked 30th, and a pathetic 5 game total against a 17 year-old in a GS final. Let's face it, there's only one way your girls are heading, and that's down. They're finished because they were simply not good enough to beat the likes of Sprem and Sharapova who are the next generation of womens tennis players. Personally, I don't like either of them much, but they are a breath of fresh air to the game, and have shown that the Williams are beatable, and at the biggest GS of all.

I saw enough encouraging signs from Daniela to believe that she is heading in the right direction again, while I saw enough of the Williams (I was at the Karolina v Venus match) to believe that their best times are over. Everyone's era of dominance has to come to an end sooner or later, no-one is invincible for ever. That time is now for the Williams'.

Well said truth. Serena still did better than all but one other player at this wimbledon. If that means she is done and over, then tjaaa.....

I´ll take a RU over a 3rd loss anyday. Sorry, just me.

And I don´t get the picture?! What´s so funny about it?!

The putrid odor of hatred radiates from this thread like dog shit on the sidewalk on a hot Atlanta summer day.

I think I'll leave now!

Hatred? If you can see any sign of this from my thread, suit yourself, buddy. No, hatred is not the appropriate term, just contempt for fools who can't take the truth.
