Thai repeat for Nagyova
BBC Sports

Henrieta Nagyova won her second Volvo Women's Open title, defeating fellow Slovak Lubomira Kurhajcova 6-4 6-2.

Her triumph in Thailand was Nagyova's first WTA Tour title since she triumphed in Warsaw in 2000.

She won in Pattaya in 1997, finished as runner-up in 2001, and was a semi-finalist in 2000 and 1996.

Both players, who are friends and practise together at the same club, struggled to gain the early advantage.

Although Nagyova broke to lead 1-0 on her fourth break point, she double-faulted twice in the next game as Kurhajcova levelled.

But in a match of long baseline rallies, it was Nagyova who claimed the decisive break in the third game.

She held on to take the opening set despite her opponent firing an ace in each of her next three service games.

Disappointed after surrendering such a close first set, Kurhajcova made a disastrous start to the second and never recovered.

Playing the first WTA Tour final of her career, she earned just two points in the first three games.

Kurhajcova broke Nagyova to love in the fourth game, but her opponent's greater consistency earned another break to lead 4-1 and she went on to serve out the match to love.

"She played well, and I made a lot of mistakes and was a little bit tired," said 20-year old Kurhajcova. "But it's been a great week for me."
