What is Tennis Tipping?

In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different participant and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format and your scores are combined.

In case of a tie, SR/TB rules will decide who moves on to the next round.

Code of Conduct:

Retirements:

In case a player (i.e. the actual WTA Player) retires in a match, the match WILL count in TT, as long as the first point has been played, but they do NOT COUNT for SRs or for TB Points decisions but they do count for TBs in which players or teams picked different winners.
For the amount of sets given to the winner (all matches where the players picked the loser) they will count as long as the winner is already a set up or the match went to a 3rd set before the retirement.
We will also give out "set given to the winner" points for matches in which both picked the right winner as long as the player who retired was up a set or the match went to a 3rd set before the retirement.

If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will be cancelled.

Draw Sizes:

Tournaments should have a draw which has the same size as the real one. Qualifying draws should have room for 16 players in weeks with 4 TT tournaments.
PM and P5 tournaments obviously have bigger draws, specific rules should be decided by the board members.

TT Schedule for WTA tournaments:

2-days QF:
For tournaments with a 32 Player MD Field and 7 MD days (Monday-Sunday) we will have 2 days of QF.
So if there is a Sunday final, Qualies starts Saturday and MD starts Monday.

If the first day of MD (1st round Singles) has less than four matches in total or no main draw matches at all, then 1st round becomes a 2-day round.

TT Schedule for ITF tournaments:

Sunday (if the real tournament starts on Sunday already) ~ Singles Q1

Tournament Managers:

Please check for further informaton: Tennis Tipping General Rules 2023 | TT index in post #6

Rankings System:

Best of 20. This means that your best 20 results throughout the year will be counted for your ranking. When two or more players have the same number of ranking points, the tie for the ranking position will be decided according to the following priorities:

Code:
a) The player with the most total points from all tournaments
b) The player with the fewest number of tournaments
c) The highest number of points from one single tournament, then if needed, the second highest and so on
d) name (for singles; doubles players stay tied)
Special Exempts (SEs 2023)

In 2023 every WTA 250 level tournaments will have space for 2 Special Exempts (1 for Singles and 1 for Doubles)
Challenger Race Standings from certain periods will determine the holders of the Spots.

Please check for further informaton: 2023 Special Exempts

All managers of WTA 250 level Tournaments should have space for 1 SE for Singles and Doubles.
SE holders in singles have to request their SE before the first deadline is over (always 6pm CET/CEST on Sunday)
SE holders in doubles have to request their SE before the final deadline is over (same deadlines as for regular entries)

If they don´t request their SE in time or they don't need their SE as they are in MD anyway, then the SE gets cleared and the 1st person/team from the Q-List moves into the Main Draw.

In case of a tie between players/teams the order will be determined by this:

1. The highest number of points from one single challenger tournament during the period, then if needed, the second highest and so on
2. Number of challengers played during the period
3. Challenger points earned during the year
4. Number of challengers played during the year
5. TT ranking (for Doubles combined ranking)

Wild Cards 2023:

Defending champions in singles and doubles will get a Main Draw WC at all WTA tournaments (incl Grand Slams) but there won´t be any Wild Cards for WTA 125 and Challenger tournaments.
For every 5 tournaments managed successfully in a year, the manager will get a WC in SINGLES in any WTA level tournament of his choice (except the season-ending tournaments, obviously). The WC spot can only be used in the same calendar year in which it was received.
People who want to use a WC have to request it in the respective tournament thread (same deadlines as for regular entries) and the tournament manager has to inform the TT Board about it, which will make sure that the WC is justified.
The WC spot for Singles will be cleared once the 1st deadline of a tournament is over, the WC spot for doubles will be cleared once the final deadline (and 1st and only deadline for doubles) is over, in this case the first player/team from the qualifying list moves into Main Draw.

Singles Champions of 2022: Singles 2022
Doubles Champions of 2022: Doubles 2022

Determining Lucky Losers:

In the end of the final qualifying round, managers should post a list of the losers who had the highest scores in that round (If the score is the same you should use the TB/SR system to order the players). Those are the first players to be called in case someone doesn’t send his/her picks.
Players/Teams who had a BYE in 1st Q-round and then didn´t send for FQR will be at the end of the LL List only (behind those who sent and lost in 1st q-round)! The order of those in the LL list will be decided by ranking then.

If both players fail to send picks in a FQR match, then the best loser of the Final Q-Round automatically qualifies for the MD as well.

Deadline for Picks:

The deadline for accepting picks is the time at which the matches are scheduled to start. NO PICKS will be accepted if they are sent after that point.

Example:

Deadline: 10:00am
All picks sent until 09:59.59am will be accepted.
Picks sent at 10:00.00am or later will not be accepted.
Managers are allowed to make the deadline earlier if they are not able to post the differences at the time when the play starts. However, all picks which are sent between "manager's deadline" and real start of play have to be counted. When the differences are posted, you can't change your picks anymore.

Example:

Manager sets the deadline to 10am because (s)he needs to post differences earlier but the play (the first match) starts at 11am. All picks received between 10am-11am have to be counted.
If a manager put a "wrong" deadline and play already started before manager deadline is over, then all picks which are sent between the real deadline and the manager deadline will count as well but matches which already started won´t be counted.
Note that Tournament countback is not always useable in this case.
This rule won´t affect matches in which both players already sent their picks before the real deadline has passed, in this case all matches will count.
If the start of play is not defined exactly then deadline to send picks should be the time when the first match of the event starts.

Challengers:

Top 30 singles players and top 30 doubles players are now considered to be "late entrants" for all challenger/futures tt tournaments. the order of LE priority which they gain will be dependent on their reverse rankings (ie world #30 has first LE priority, world #1 has last)
Top 30 Late Entries are not able to be seeded (Qualifying or Main Draw)
If there aren´t enough players in the draw and Top 30 Late Entries have to be seeded then they should be seeded in reversed order.

Protected rankings:

In order to be eligible for a Protected Ranking, one must have been out of competition a minimum of six months.
The eligible player must apply for a PR in the „Protected Ranking“ thread before re-entering TT competition.
That means that the player has to post in the Protected Ranking thread to apply for a PR there before he commits to any tournament.

A player has one year from the date he/she returns to competition to use the Protected Ranking and may enter a maximum of 2 Grand Slams and 2 Premier Mandatories as part of his/her Protected Ranking Tournaments.

A player out for more than a year will now be entitled to 12 tournaments to use Special Ranking.
(if you are out from 6 months to 1 year you will get 8 chances to use your SR)

For seedings only the actual ranking of a player matters and players don't have to use their PR if they get into the draws with their actual ranking anyway.

Number of commitments:

Minimal number of commitments for a tournament to run is 16 players for singles and/or 8 teams for doubles
If a tournament still has less than 8 entries for doubles on Friday before the tournament starts, then the Manager should pair up players to form a 8th team on his own.
However managers are not allowed to pair up players automatically, if they committed explicit for singles only, in this case the managers should ask for their permission first.

Events which have less than 16/8 players/teams at Saturday 6pm CET/CEST (one day before the final deadline) will be cancelled and the players from the cancelled event will be automatically transferred to another ITF tournament in the same week. (Managers should inform the board about it in this case)

Billie Jean King Cup:

Players who play Billie Jean King Cup are allowed to play a Challenger or WTA tournament in the same week.

TB/SR Rules (for detailed information click HERE):

SR RULE: Every match on the OOP will be a SR match

You CAN’T send a SR in your TB different from the SR you decided to send first. If you send a SR different from your TB (Example: 2-0 6-3 4-6 7-6) that pick will be counted but the SR/TB won’t.

CB/”Looking Forward”: In Case everything is tied after the use of the TB’s use tournament Countback (CB) as a manner of untying things. If, after the use of CB everything is still tied the players will send for R2 of their current tournament AND for the next day's OOP of whichever other tournament is selected.

Where two players play each other and both fail to send picks in singles, then both are out and next round opponent gets walkover (except for first round of Q or MD, of course).

If you have a bye at any stage of the tournament, you should still send picks because if you do not, this will go against you in case of countback later on in the tournament.

Number of Events Per Week:

One can only play one event per week which includes (giving) walkovers or being replaced by an ALT.

It is not allowed to play another tournament during the same week, after being accepted into the draw of any of the tournaments. That includes withdrawing after the draw is made and not sending picks.
Alternates are allowed to send picks and (in case they don't get in) play another tournament that week.

Sending picks for someone else:

Not allowed

Commitments:

Entries will be based on ranking (rankings from two weeks before the start of the tournament)
Tournament thread posted not later than Sunday (two weeks before start of the tournament)
Players have at least 8 days (from Sunday till Sunday) to commit to the tournament and this will be done by ranking.

First entry deadline for Singles is always Sunday 6 pm current time in Europe (CET or CEST).
The day before TT qualifying begins is the 2nd deadline for changes (the exact time is up to the tournament manager) and the draws are made after that.
Doubles players have ca. two weeks (from the Sunday when the thread is opened until the 2nd and final deadline) to commit to the tournament.
There aren’t Late Entries in doubles anymore (except for the Top30 LEs in challengers obviously), everyone who commits after the Final deadline for doubles will be considered as ALT.

A single entry post by one of the members of a doubles team is enough to commit the whole team to the doubles competition.
The post of the commitment must be clear and made by one of the player of the team.

Example for Antwerp (Quali starts 7th and MD starts 9th February):

Manager opens thread for Antwerp on Sunday, 25th January
First deadline for Singles: Sunday, 2nd February (6pm CET)
Final deadline for Singles and Deadline for Doubles: Friday, 6th February
Draws will be made straight after the Final Deadline
EL and Seeds will be based on rankings from 26th January
Late Entries:

Everyone who commits after the first entry deadline in singles will be considered as Late Entry.
LEs, who commit after the 1st deadline will go to the bottom of the Entry List (at ITF tournaments behind the Top 30 entries which are automatically counted as LEs as well).
Late entries should be sorted according to the commitment order.
Everyone who commits after the Final deadline will be ALT.
Normal Late Entries (not top 30 LEs) CANNOT be seeded, unless there aren't enough players in the draw.

Example for 32 MD:

- for example 26,30 or 34 entries on Sunday after 1st deadline is over.
  • Manager should fill up to 44 players (28 direct MD entries + 16 QD) with late entrants (if LEs available obviously)
  • 45th entry and/or all those who commit after the final deadline is over will be ALTs.
Managers have to extend the final deadline only, if there are still spots available in the Main Draw after the second deadline, the first deadline is always Sunday 6 PM CET/CEST!

Maximum number of direct Main Draw entries (incl. SE/WC) is always 28 (14 for doubles), for bigger draws 56,112 or 116 (28 or 56 for doubles)
All further players have to be in the Qualifying Draw, even if that means that players in the Q-Draw get a direct BYE into the MD (in this case players obviously do not gain any points for qualifying).

If I have less than 32 players at the latest possible commitment deadline then highest ranked players on the Entry List will receive a BYE (example: 20 entrants in a 32 draw size 1st round => The 8 seeds + players ranked 9-12 (Top 30 LEs are always at the bottom of that List) get a BYE

Double commitment (player commits to two different tournaments in the same week):

Before the 1st deadline on Sunday, 6pm CET players can commit to any tournament, withdraw from there and commit to another tournament without being a LE.
After the 1st deadline players have 48 hours time to withdraw from events of their choice.
If the player is still on two different Entry Lists once the Withdrawal Deadline (Tuesday, 6pm CET/CEST) is over, the player receives an official warning from the TT board.
Is the infraction noticed before the tournaments start, only the first commitment will be valid and no punishment is applied.
If the double commitment is not noticed by anyone before the draws are made, points gained by the player in any of the two tournaments will not be considered and the player will be replaced with ALTs/LLs (only possible if the player didn´t win a round already in that tournament).

If a player, who received an official warning before, is again on two different Entry Lists once the Withdrawal deadline is over, then this player gets disqualified immediately and won´t be allowed to play any tournament in that week.
After that the warning expires and the user will receive a warning again before getting disqualified.
All warnings expire at the end of the year and all players will start from zero again once the new season starts with tournament 1.

A list of players who received a warning or got disqualified can be found here

Challengers in 2nd week of Grand Slams and Indian Wells/Miami:

Players who reached Quarterfinals in Singles and/or Doubles at Grand Slams are automatically out of all ITF tournaments which take place in the 2nd week of the events mentioned above.

The ITFs in the 2nd week of Indian Wells and Miami will have Final Deadline on Sunday 6pm CET as well, like all other ITF tournaments, which means that all players who reached 4th round in singles or/and 3rd round in doubles in Indian Wells/Miami are automatically out of these ITF tournaments.

Missing Someone's Commitment:

In the case that you miss someone's commitment while managing a tournament after the OOP has been posted, he/she will be topping the ALT or LL lists. The manager should notify the players that are involved.

Commit in someone else:

You can't commit in someone else. You can always commit in only yourself in singles and your doubles team. Difference is in doubles where you commit in your team and your partner doesn't have to confirm it.

Alternates/Lucky Losers:

If someone's opponent doesn't send his/her picks, the opponent gets a walkover.
If there's ALT/LL available, then this ALT/LL replaces the opponent who didn't send his/her picks.
LL1/ALT1 replaces opponent of the lowest ranked player in the draw (note that Top 30 LEs always count as lowest ranked players in ITF draws , in reversed order from 30 down to 1 as lowest possible ranking)
LL4/ALT4 ( if there are 4 people on the list, for example) replaces opponent of the highest ranked player in the draw (note that Top 30 LEs always count as lowest ranked players in ITF draws , in reversed order from 30 down to 1 as lowest possible ranking)

Example (with 3 LL):

(1) AdeyC (GBR) vs. LL3
(5) DJDVD (NED) vs. LL2
Adrian. (GER) vs. LL1
Matches where neither send should be replaced first:

ALT#1/LL#1 vs ALT#2/LL#2

LL#1 vs LL#4 and LL#2 vs LL#3 if there are two such matches etc.
And then rest of the LL are placed against the players who did send (but opponents did not)
If more spots than ALTs/LLs available, then place ALTs/LLs in ranking order.
That means that the highest ranked player of the Entry List, whose opponent didn't send, gets a walkover.
Note that Top 30 LEs in Challengers are always at the bottom of the Entry List and therefore don't get a walkover even if they have a better ranking than none Top 30 players.

Where there is a 1st round match in which BOTH players/teams do not send picks, the following will happen:

1) 2 LLs or 2 ALTs will replace the players
2) where only 1 LL/ALT is available, that LL replaces one of the players, the No.1 seed's opponent replaces the other player, and the No.1 seed receives a walkover
3) where no LL/ALT is available, the opponents of both the No.1 and No.2 seeds move to that part of the draw and both No.1 and No.2 seeds receive a walkover
4) If the No.1 or No.2 seeds didn´t send picks then the opponents of No.3, No.4 or No.5 seeds etc. will move to that part of the draw and No.3/No.4/No.5 seeds will receive a walkover
5) If more matches are in the same circumstances, the opponents of the lower seeded or highest placed unseeded players of the Entry List will fill in the draw in the appropriate order

Example: (for further examples please click HERE)!

Original Draw (Non Senders in RED)

00:00 | (1) garyyoung/xieergai (CHN/CHN) vs. MikBs/Med.Nico (ITA/SUI)
00:00 | Allez-Alejo/Tuckii (USA/FRA) vs. (3) DJDVD/Freak3yman84 (NED/USA)
00:00 | (2) histery/diego36arg (ROU/ARG) vs. Xiu ZhiFu/Fantasy Hero (CHN/ITA)
00:00 | saarsngg/Ekin (SIN/CHN) vs. (4) Meelis/SodaPop (EST/SIN)

2 ALTs available

2 ALTs replace Allez-Alejo/Tuckii and DJDVD/Freak3yman84
Opponents of 1st seeds and opponents of 2nd seeds move to the other part of the draw where both teams did not send picks and 1st and 2nd seeds will receive a walkover.

New Draw

00:00 | (1) garyyoung/xieergai (CHN/CHN) vs. walkover
00:00 | ALT1 vs. ALT2
00:00 | (2) histery/diego36arg (ROU/ARG) vs. walkover
00:00 | MikBs/Med.Nico (ITA/SUI) vs. Xiu ZhiFu/Fantasy Hero (CHN/ITA)
Singles/Doubles (1st round matches):

Teams/Players only get replaced on a 1st round.
Teams already get replaced if one player of a team did not send picks, if there aren´t LLs/ALTs available then the opponents receive a walkover, this also counts when the 1st round is a two days round.
Teams/Players can only get replaced on a 1st day of a two days 1st round

Singles/Doubles (Non 1st round matches):

Matches in which 3 out of 4 players sent their picks will still be played as one sender can beat two senders (teams are not automatically out anymore, if one member of the team did not send picks)
Matches in which only one player of each team sent picks will be played as one vs. one
If none of the Team/Players sent their picks, then both Teams/Players are out of the tournament and next round opponent gets walkover
Teams/Players who did not send picks are allowed to stay in the draw and still have a chance to win whenever there is a two days round (unless it´s a 1st round matches obviously)

Sending Picks:

You MUST send picks to the manager in order for them to count.
If you attempt to send picks to the manager and the PM fails, then your picks will count as long as you can provide evidence that the picks were sent in time. If you cannot, then such picks will not count. If you send to your doubles partner, but forget to send to the manager, these picks will NOT count.

Note that sending picks in an incorrect format can lead to point penalties, you can find more information about this on Page 3 of the Rules Thread.

Picks must be sent to the person(s) nominated in the OOP. If the player sent to a different person and the picks are forwarded to the right persons then those picks still cannot be accepted.
Picks will still count if the player sent them only to one of the two persons nominated in the OOP (only possible at combined events with two managers)

Picks can't be accepted where a player attempts to send picks to the manager but spells the name wrongly in cases where the manager has posted the OOP.

Example:

Michael! posts the OOP and clearly states that picks have to be sent to him.
Chris 84 sends picks to Michael. instead, such picks will NOT be counted.
If the manager forgets to mention the playing round in the OOP (e.g. picks count for Doubles Round 1), the OOP of the next day will be split. This will only be done in the first round of the tournament (qualifying and main draw). Only if all players sent, the original OOP can be used.

Tennis Tipping General Rules 2023 | Changes in Red | TT index in post #4

Round Robin (RR) Events:

Qualifying for WET (WTA Elite Trophy):

12 players (from 9th to 20th place of the 2023 TT race) round robin singles format (four groups of three players, then single-elimination semifinals and final), and 12 double pairs from 9th to 20th place of 2023 TT Race (four groups of three pair, then single-elimination semifinals and final)

Qualifying for WTA Tour Finals:

Highest ranked players/teams determined by a ranking composed by the best 20 results that the players/teams have done throughout the year. Top 8 players and Top 8 teams shall qualify.
The format will be two groups (4 players in each group) for singles and two groups (4 teams in each group) for doubles

If a player/team plays Zhuhai and then also gets into the WTA Tour Finals draw as ALT, then only the better result (pointswise) out of those two tournaments will count for the ranking.

Qualifying for Challenger YEC:

Exact date of the Challenger YEC will be announced during the year, it will probably take place one or two weeks after the WTA Tour Finals and will feature the Top 8 challenger players and Top 8 teams of the year.
WTA 125 tournaments will count for the Challenger race as well.
People who played in the YEC or WET are INELIGIBLE for this event.
They can play singles of one and doubles of the other, but not singles in both, etc.
The format will be two groups (4 players in each group) for singles and two groups (4 teams in each group) for doubles.

General Rules of the RR Events:

Qualifiers and ALTs will have to confirm their participation in the respective threads, Commitment deadline will be Sunday, 3pm local time before the event starts.
Tournament managers should inform players about their possible participation as soon as it is sure that they qualified for the event.

The situation with ALTs will remain the same. If you wish to be an ALT for YEC, WET or Challenger YEC then you can´t play in a challenger in the same week.
Maximal number of ALTs for the RR events is 4 (4 ALTs for Singles and 4 ALTs for Doubles)

Players or Teams (one player per team is enough) who fail to send picks during the RR rounds of the tournament will be permanently replaced by alternates.
Players or Teams who got replaced during the RR rounds still have the chance to qualify for the next stage if they scored more points than her RR opponents.
Players or Teams are allowed to stay in the draw when there are no ALTs available and still have a theoretical chance to win the match.

If somebody does not send for the semifinal then they will be replaced by the 3rd/2nd place finisher from their group.

The "usual" TT rules will count for the final of a RR event:

Teams/Players who did not send picks are allowed to stay in the draw (and still have a chance to win) in non 1st round matches
Matches (not 1st round) in which only one player of each team sent picks will be played as one vs. one
In Matches (not 1st round) in which only one of four players sent, the one who send picks will receive a walkover.

If doubles partners are drawn to the same singles group then they have to play against each other in the first first round (RR1)

The TB rules remain the same as for the regular tournaments.

The winner and the runner-up of each group will be determined by the following tie-breaker:

Quote:
1) Greatest number of wins
2) Head-to-head results if only two (2) players are tied
3) If three (3) players are tied, then:
a) Number of correct picks.
b) If (a) produces one (1) superior player (first place), or one (1) inferior player (third place), and the two (2) remaining players are tied, the tie between those two (2) players shall be broken by head-to-head record.
c) Number of correct SRs.
d) Number of correct ISRs

GUIDELINES AND RULES FOR TENNIS TIPPING MANAGERS

Managers should start their "managing career" with managing challengers
Only high-profiled managers will run slams and bigger tournaments

Questions on becoming a tournament manager?

Please check this thread:
2023 TT Management Thread

Managers/User who post the OOP should post a link of the responsible person´s username

Example:
All players send picks to Michael!
Managers should post the Order of Play for the following day ca. 12 hours before play starts.
Please make sure that someone else is able to post the OOP in time for you, if you are unable to do it yourself.

Management Guidelines for all Managers & Tournaments

1.
Managers have to post at least one updated Entry List before the 1st deadline is over.
2. Managers have to post an updated Entry List once the 1st deadline is over and they need to post a further update of the Entry List once the Withdrawal Deadline (always Tuesday 6pm CET/CEST) is over.
3. Please make sure that you don't forget to post a list of players names only once the Withdrawal Deadline is over (to make it easier for the board to check for double commitments)
4. Managers should update the first page regularly with timely updates of: Entry Lists, Draws/Results, Daily OOP, & anything else they would like to add.
5. Managers should also post the TT Schedule of Play & Deadlines on the first page.
6. Managers should post timely differences.
7. Managers should be aware of the basic rules of TT & other rules vital for managing.
8. Managers should check for the deadline before they post the OOP. They should also post the OOP in time and post first and last names of the players, to make sure that everyone knows who will actually play.
9. When posting the OOP, make sure players know who to send to by posting a link to send you a direct message.
10. Managers should post a LL/ALT List.
11. Managers should post the list of players in the tournament thread after they post an actual entry list. This will allow the board to easily check for double commitments.
12. Managers should inform the board if a player enters with a WC (wild card).
13. In ITF qualifying matches, there is now a match TB in the 3rd set. Please make sure you make that aware to players if there are qualifying matches on the OOP. (ex. 64 46 10-5 64 46 64)

The guidelines above are only the basic rules for managers to follow. However, many managers like to go a step further and post H2H's, interviews, schedule of play's, etc.

The TT OOP should have in its contents:

  • The round for which you are tipping
  • 3 matches should be Tie Break matches, others should all be SR matches
  • TB1 should always be part of the OOP from Day 2 and at least one TB should be part of Day 1 (if there is a two days round), rest is up to the manager
  • The person/people TT players are suppossed to send their picks to and the deadline to send picks

The TB matches should be considered to be the most difficult to predict in the schedule!

Rules for TT Olympics 2021 in Tokyo

Every player can play for the nation he was ranked for in the 2020 year-end-rankings (in this case the rankings from 16th November 2020) or he played Fed Cup for between 2016 and 2021.
New players who will start playing in 2021 are allowed to use the nation they started with.

People have to sign in in the tournaments-thread and have to mention for which country they play.

There is a maximum of 4 singles players and 2 doubles-teams for each country.
Players/Teams who don't belong to the top 4 (2 for doubles) of their country can still be on the ALT List but can only replace one of their fellow countrymen if these don´t send.
The doubles players can be different from the singles ones, so 8 players in total is possible for every country (depends on the ranking of course)
In Doubles the combined ranking of both players will decide about the Entry List placement and players can team up with whoever they want, it´s only required that the doubles partners are from the same country.

Two players/teams from the same country can't be in the same half, or same quarter (if there are more than 2 players)
This also would affect the ALT placement in case of non senders, exception would be if there is only one non sender and the 1st ALT who sent is from
the same country as someone else in the same quarter/half.

2023 SR/TB Rules

The TT OOP should have in its contents:

  • The round for which you are tipping
  • 3 matches should be Tie Break matches, others should all be SR matches
  • TB1 should always be part of the OOP from Day 2 and at least one TB should be part of Day 1 (if there is a two days round), rest is up to the manager
  • The person/people TT players are suppossed to send their picks to and the deadline to send picks

The TB matches should be considered to be the most difficult to predict in the schedule

Procedures to determine a winner:

1) The player who has more correct picks is the winner

In the case of a tie in the number of correct picks the winner should be determined by this order:

2) Set Ratios

Player A wins if he has more correct set ratios than player B.
In case there is a tie in the number of correct SRs, you should use the ISR rule method.

3) Amount of sets given to the winners

This step consists of counting the sets given to the winners of all matches where the player picks the loser, considering the SR (score in sets).
The player with the highest amount of sets given to the winners considering only the incorrect picks wins.
Sets given to the winners ARE counted if there’s a retirement.
Sets given to the winners are also counted, if one player picked the incorrect winner 2-1 and the other player forgot to pick for that match "no pick"!

SINGLES:

Example 1: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 63

Player A picked Pliskova 2-0, Player B Pliskova 2-1 => Player B gets one "set given to the winner" point

Example 2: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 36 22 retired

Player A picked Pliskova 2-0, Player B Pliskova 2-1 => Player B gets a "set given to the winner" point as he/she gave a set to Svitolina (the correct winner) and as the match went to a 3rd set before the retirement

Example 3: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 04 retired

Player A picked Pliskova 2-0, Player B Pliskova 2-1 => Player B gets a "set given to the winner" point as he/she gave a set to Svitolina (the correct winner) and as the match went to a 3rd set before the retirement

Example 4: Svitolina def. Pliskova 50 retired

Player A picked Pliskova 2-0, Player B Pliskova 2-1 => Player B does not get a "set given to the winner" point

NEW Example 5: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 63

Player A picked Svitolina 2-0, Player B picked Pliskova 2-1 => Player B does get a "set given to the winner" point

From 2020 on we will also give out ISR points for matches in which both picked the right winner as long as the player who retires is up a set or the match went to a 3rd set before the retirement.

Example 1: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 36 41 retired

Player A picked Svitolina 2-0, Player B picked Svitolina 2-1 => Player B gets a "set given to the winner" point as he/she gave a set to Pliskova

Example 2: Svitolina def. Pliskova 46 retired

Player A picked Svitolina 2-0, Player B picked Svitolina 2-1 => Player B gets a "set given to the winner" point as he/she gave a set to Pliskova

Example 3: Svitolina def. Pliskova 64 05 retired

Player A picked Svitolina 2-0, Player B picked Svitolina 2-1 => Player B does not get a "set given to the winner" point

DOUBLES:

Example 1: Paszek def. Jankovic 6-3 6-4

Team A: Paszek 6-3 6-4 Jankovic 3-6 6-3 6-4
Team B: Paszek 6-3 6-4 Jankovic 6-3 6-4

Team A gets one "set given to the winner" point for their Jankovic 2-1 pick

Example 2: Paszek def. Jankovic 6-3 6-4

Team A: Jankovic 6-3 3-6 6-4 Jankovic 3-6 6-3 6-4
Team B: Paszek 6-3 6-4 Jankovic 6-3 6-4

In this example, team A gains two "set given to the winner" points for their Jankovic 2-1 picks

If this fails to provide a winner, then the Tie Breaks method is used.

4) Tie Breaks

In case Player A chose the correct winner for the TB1 match while Player B didn´t => Player A wins

In case Player A and Player B chose the correct winner for the TB1 match and only one has the correct Set Ratio for that match, then the player with the correct Set Ratio wins

In case Player A and Player B chose the correct winner for the TB1 match and both have the correct/incorrect Set Ratio for that match, winner should be determined by this order:

Player has 3 set scores in the correct order > Player has 3 set scores in the wrong order >Player has 2 set scores in the correct order > Player has 2 set scores in the wrong order > Player has 1 set score in the right order > Player has 1 set score in the wrong order

If you pick the same score for both sets (e.g. 64 64) and the real score is 64 63 then you get only 1 set score in the right order, only in case that the match score is really 64 64 then you get 2 sets in the right order. The same is for 3-setters. If you pick 64 46 64 and the match score is 64 26 63 then you only get 1 set in the right order.

If you can't find a winner after all this, use the who's closer method:

Example: Sharapova wins a match 6-3 6-3

Player A chose her: 6-0 6-0
Player B chose her: 7-6 7-6

Total number of games in Sharapova match: 6+3+6+3=18
Total number of games in Player A pick: 6+0+6+0=12
Total number of games in Player B pick: 7+6+7+6=26

Player A: |18-12|=6
Player B: |18-26|=8

Player A wins as he is closer to the real score.

Example: Sharapova wins a match 6-3 6-3

Player A chose her: 6-2 4-6 6-4
Player B chose her: 6-4 3-6 6-2

Total number of games in Sharapova match: 6+3+6+3=18
Total number of games in Player A pick: 6+2+4+6+6+4=28
Total number of games in Player B pick: 6+4+3+6+6+2=27

Player A: |18-28|=10
Player B: |18-27|=9

Player B wins as he is closer to the real score.

If you can´t find a winner after this, take a look at the order of sets:

Example: Sharapova wins a match 36 64 63 (total numbers of games in this match: 28)

Player A chose her: 62 67 63 (total numbers of games picked: 30)
Player B chose her: 67 62 63 (total numbers of games picked: 30)

Player B wins as he picked order of sets correct.

Player C chose her: 62 06 61 (total numbers of games picked: 21)
Player D chose her: 46 76 75 (total numbers of games picked: 35)

Player D wins as he picked order of sets correct.

In case both players chose the loser for the TB1 match:

Player A and Player B chose the loser of the TB1 match but Player A gives a set to the winner and Player B doesn't --> Player A wins

Player A and Player B chose the loser of the TB1 match and none or both players gave a set to the winner --->
Go to TB2 (or TB3 if needed) and do the same steps which you did for TB1 before (starting again from Point 4: Tie Breaks)

None of the TBs methods above could produce a winner -->
Use the new TB method and check for the correct set scores of the players in matches where both picked the wrong winner
(starting again with TB1 obviously, then TB2 and TB3 if needed)

Player has 2 set scores in the correct order > Player has 2 set scores in the wrong order > Player has 1 set score in the right order > Player has 1 set score in the wrong order

Note: a correct setscore given to the "wrong" player doesn´t count

Example A:

Result: Halep def. Williams 64 63

Player A: Williams 64 63
Player B: Williams 76 75

Player A and B don´t have any correct setscores

Example B:

Result: Halep def. Williams 75 62

Player A: Williams 75 26 62
Player B: Williams 64 36 63

Player A has one correct setscore

If none of the TBs methods could produce a winner, use the TB method where the player who gave the winner the most games will win,
starting again with TB1 obviously, then TB2 and TB3 if needed.
This rule only becomes effective when both players picked the wrong winner of a match.

Example A:

Result: Halep def. Williams 75 62

Player A: Williams 64 63
Player B: Williams 63 62

Player A wins as he gave more games to the winner ( 7 compared to 5)

If you can´t find a winner after this, take a look at the order of sets (starting again with TB1, then TB2/TB3)

Example:

Result: Stephens def. Osaka 64 46 63

Player A: Osaka 16 62 76
Player B: Osaka 62 16 76

Real score: Stephens 64 46 63

Player A wins as he gave the first set to Stephens/2nd set to Osaka

This rule only becomes effective when both players picked the wrong winner of a match.

5) Tournament Countback

In Case everything is tied after the use of all TBs, use Tournament Countback as a manner of untying things:

Where two players have the same score, and cannot be separated by SRs, sets given to the winner points or TBs, countback is used. Countback is based on the WHOLE tournament, and not just the previous round.
If that doesn't separate people, then we do SR countback for the whole tournament, then "sets given to the winner" points for the whole tournament and then if people still aren't separated, we look at the previous round scores, then SRs, then "sets given to the winners" points and then, if needed, TBs.

Important
In case of doubles partners facing each other in singles with the exact same picks, and when Countback does not determine a winner, the lower ranked player wins the match.

If, after the use of CB everything is still tied:

Where 2 players are tied on score, SRs, sets given to the winners, PTS and on countback, matches will be decided by predicting the results of another tournament. the players will then send for R2 of their current tournament AND for the next day's OOP of whichever other tournament is selected. Where possible, the tiebreaker tournament selected should be within a similar timezone to the initial tournament and at a similar level, although as long as things are fair for both participants, this is left largely to the discretion of the manager

Example:

Chris 84 and Meelis are tied in every aspect in their 1st round match in Brisbane. both players then send for 2nd round in Brisbane, but to separate them, and to decide who goes through, they must send picks for the Shenzhen tournament as well. The manager will make up/copy the OOP for the following day's play in Shenzhen and Chris 84 and Meelis will send for that. assume that Meelis wins on the Shenzhen OOP 5-4.
This means that Meelis advances to 2nd round in Brisbane and Chris 84's 2nd round Brisbane picks are discarded.

TT Code of Conduct

1. General

1.1 TT is a game where the best standards of sportsmanship are expected.

1.2 This code of conduct is intended to raise awareness of acceptable behaviour in TT threads.

1.3 By entering into any tournament a player agrees to accept this code, whether or not he has actually read it.

1.4 The code will apply to all TT tournaments, including exhibitions and friendlies.

1.5 This code will take effect when the first tournament thread of the 2016 season is opened. It will then be subject to possible amendments.

1.6. The TT Board shall be responsible for the interpretation of this code, and for taking any action necessary under it, and their decision shall be final.

1.7 Where required by the context “he” shall be read as “he/she” and “player” shall be read as “player or players”

2. The Manager

2.1 The manager will be aware of the Time Zone for his tournament, and its relationship to CET/CEST

2.2 The manager will attempt to volunteer for tournaments which best fit in with his personal commitments.

2.3 Except in an emergency a manager will not manage more than one tournament in any week.

2.4 If opened in “skeleton” form the thread will be updated at least 2 days before the first deadline. In the meantime the manager will respond promptly to any queries by players/potential players.

2.5 The entry lists will be updated at least one day before the first deadline and at regular intervals thereafter.

2.6 The manager will publish the OOPs as soon as possible, and will attempt to give a window of at least 12 hours for the players to send picks.

2.7 The manager may delegate responsibility for posting the OOP to another person in order to achieve the 12 hour window.

2.8 The manager will usually aim to post differences within 1 hour of start of play (always after the deadline).

2.9 The manager will post results (updates for a 2 day round) as soon as possible.

2.10 In case of unfinished matches the manager will give full instructions regarding the sending of picks.

2.11 Where 2 rounds are played in one day, the manager will try to post differences for the second round when the results of the first are known, but he is not obliged to do so. If differences are not posted he will respond to players’ reasonable requests for information.

2.12 The manager will be familiar with the TT rules, particularly those governing tie-breaks, and will ask for advice if in doubt.

2.13 The manager will keep the first page of the thread updated, especially the draws and the OOP

2.14 If using the -Evita- Spreadsheet the manager will be responsible for its correct operation, and will be prepared to double-check any result on request.

2.15.The manager will treat all players impartially.

2.16 The manager will be courteous and considerate at all times, even when provoked.

2.17 The manager will be especially tolerant and helpful towards players new to Tennis Tipping.

3. The Players

3.1 The players should remember the one tournament per week rule, and their commitment should be clear, particularly in doubles.

3.2 Players are responsible for checking the entry lists and making sure their name is included in the draw.

3.3 Players will remember that the manager has a private life, and be prepared to be flexible when necessary.

3.4 Players may request OOPs, differences or results before the deadlines mentioned in this code, but must do so politely.

3.5 Players are free to criticize the manager, but must be specific and not make generalizations.

3.6 Players must not accuse the manager of laziness, incompetence or bias without clear and precise evidence.

3.7 Players must not personally abuse the manager, their opponents or any fellow player.

3.8 If a player breaches the code, the manager may, at his sole discretion, give the player a chance to retract before taking any action.

3.9 A separate thread in TT has been opened for disciplinary matters.

3.10 The TT board has the option to discipline players, who regularly break the rules of the Code of Conduct.
Players who are in at risk of discipline will receive an official warning before, method of discipline will be individual for each case and will be discussed by the board.

LL3 vs. LL4

Note 2: Where there is more than 1 1st round matches in which BOTH players don't send picks, but there is not enough LLs/ALTs, use a combination of the previous examples.

Note 3: For doubles everything is the same, only we are looking at combined ranking and teams already get replaced if one player of a team didn't send picks.

Ondrej, I think you should also include the Tiebreak-rules in this thread, to have all rules in one thread. ;)

I wanted it to be separated, I hope it's okay, I will link to this thread though.

I didn't see the other thread. If it gets sticky, it's ok how it is. ;)
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

I have a big question about the Q draws. So, if a Q Draw can have max. 32 players that means;

1. Two rounds for the 1st day of the tournament or
2. The tournament should start one day earlier or
3. Final q round should be the same day as 1st round

I need some advice here....

Your auckland tourny is a 16 q-draw ;)
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

Ondrej, can you add the rule with 2 days OF's?

For WTA-tournaments with a 32 Player-MD-Field and 7 MD-days we use to have 2 days of OF. So if there is a Sunday final, Qualies starts Saturday and MD starts Monday.
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

updated :)
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

like this? ;)

Use of Alternates/Lucky Losers: If more spots than alternates, highest ranked players receive byes. Place in ranking order.

Where both players fail to send picks for a 1st round match and there are no LLs or ALTs to take their places, the highest-ranked players in that round will receive byes to rd2, and their previous opponents will play each other in the "problem match"
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

Yeah. Great :)
In addition, the line "place in ranking order" is a bit vague. The first ALT for QD/MD faces the lowest ranked player wihout opponent, and so on, right?
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

yes :)
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

Do you have to have 100 posts to play any challenger, international OR grandslam?
Re: Tennis Tipping General Rules | Updated for 2011! | Changes in red text!

Yes.
