CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Top-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand survived a second-set lapse against qualifier Irina Selyutina of Kazakstan to win 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3 Tuesday in the Canberra Women's Classic.

Four seeded players have already slumped out of the Australian Open tuneup event and seventh-seeded Nathalie Dechy of France looked like joining them.

Dechy lost the first set at love and then saved two match points in a second set tiebreaker against American Jill Craybas before winning 0-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5 in two hours and 40 minutes.

In other matches, Anna Smashnova of Israel, the champion last week in Auckland, New Zealand, had a 6-1, 6-3 win over Saori Obata of Japan, while Lilia Osterloh beat fellow American Samantha Reeves to advance to the third round, fighting back to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
