all grand slams in 97 but paris, no defending champion;)
Hahaha, odd how no one talks about those GS´s! It´s obvious that Hingis sure did profit from not having to face Graf.....wasn´t she the dominator in ´96?!

Martina Navratilova was fortunate to not have a truly great serve-and-volley contemporary to challenge her these years. If all you have to beat are baseliners on grass- kinda taints the effort. That said- the only asterisks in the record books are next to 1977 Australian Open explaining that 2 events were held, and 1985, explaining no event was held. The record books are no respecter of persons.

to be fair martina has gotten a lot of bashing for those slams from steffi fans, haters and the german media in 97/98
like it was her fault steffi (or monica in australia) was injured
