Alicia just put in a really encouraging opening match at the 2011 Hyundai Hopman Cup. Playing Justine Henin, she lost 6/4 6/4 in 1 hr and 24 minutes. Considering her recent poor form which culminated in a 6-3 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Jelena Dokic in the semi finals of the Australian Open Playoff, it was a great performance! She came back from 4-6 0-3 to 3-3 and had points for 4-3 after a flurry of winners. If she can draw confidence from this result, Alicia can have a decent summer and perhaps still be a solid top 100 player.

Good luck for the mixed doubles Leesh!!

Great to finally see some positive signs, she played quite well all match but missed a few chances in the second set at 3-3 and 4-4 to put the pressure on Justine. Feeling much better about her chances for the rest of the year.

It's very important that she can now perform equally well in her remaining two singles matches. If she does, it should give her the confidence and motivation to play a full season. This is about as good as start to the year for her as we could have hoped for

Playing really quite well against Ivanovic right now. Amazing how much her level his risen since the playoff. Just needs to consolidate on her chances better.

Hmm if she can channel that form up until 4-4 then she can do well this year. She really let that match get away from her though.

Hopefully she doesn't have an injury problem because after she lost the ninth game in the opening set she completely went to pot. Seemed to lack the intensity and the will to get things done. Maybe it was the weather, perhaps she can get in better shape??

Still very encouraging first set and something she can build on. Hopefully she can win her next singles match and then go into Hobart with some solid form and confidence from this week

I didnt see any of her game against Justine.

But her match against Ana she played really well up until that 4-4 game. After that it went downhill, but if she can play like she did at the start the wholeway through the match she could have a good year, or at least a much better one :p
