If we use the new Fed Cup format, it would look like this:

Fed Cup Final in April 2020: Germany (finalist 2019), New Zealand (winner 2019), the host nation (we don't have a player from Hungary, so I have no idea how to decide this) and a WC (given the ITF gave it to the Czech Republic, I could see Sweden getting that in FWTT, given their huge Fed Cup success)

Fed Cup Qualification in February 2020: Pretty much everyone else

Given we introduce the new system, we could still form geographical teams; they could look like this:

Fed Cup Final in April (these teams are already qualified)

- New Zealand (winner 2019; Reinga, Islewood)
- Germany (finalist 2019; Harlow, Carebear, Graf, Lang)
- Host Nation (Hungary; it would be Zsofia Gabor, but she is currently inactive)
- Wildcard (given the ITF gave it to the Czech Republic, I could see Sweden getting that in FWTT, given their huge Fed Cup success)
- 8 more teams, who will need to qualify in February

Fed Cup Qualification in February

- Australia (Hingisafrilia, Campbell, Falcon)
- USA/Canada (Casanova, Tyler-Malone, Hytes)
- Russia (Nemayeva, Mikhailova, Korobkina)
- China (Sun, Li)
- Northern Europe/Scandinavia (Elliot/Norway, Frost/Sweden)
- Middle Europe/Eastern Europa: (Barbosa/Poland, Abdiakova/Uzbekistan)
- South East Europe (Zabokrecina/Serbia, Anastadis/Greece)
- Western Europe (Slijngaard/The Netherlands, Fletcher/Belgium)
- Baltic States (Karklina/Latvia, Malygina/Estonia)
- South East/East Asia (Park/South Korea, Chan/Hong Kong, Pryde-Degman/Singapore)
- South Europe (Perez/Spain)
- South America (Salvatore/Brazil)

I have no idea what to do with the result, but I suggest the following thing:

We implement the new Fed Cup System for 2020, but will combine it with Geographical Groups:

Fed Cup Final in April (these teams are already qualified)

- New Zealand (winner 2019; Reinga, Islewood)
- Germany (finalist 2019; Harlow, Carebear, Graf, Lang)
- Host Nation (Hungary; it would be Zsofia Gabor, but she is currently inactive, therefore we have a second WC to give or accept another qualifier)
- Wildcard (given the ITF gave it to the Czech Republic, I could see Sweden getting that in FWTT, given their huge Fed Cup success)
- 8 more teams, who will need to qualify in February

Fed Cup Qualification in February

- Australia (Hingisafrilia, Campbell, Falcon)

I dont know how you make this will work... Eek.

Actually, forming geographical groups makes the whole thing a lot more interesting, as we would play pretty much without computer players and everyone gets a chance to play and have realistic chance to win. :D

Good plan. What if you consolidated some like North America, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Scandinavia, Baltic, etc.

I think any country with two people can be their own, perhaps, like USA.

Absolutely, but I thought to start with smaller geographical groups first; there is still room for lots of improvement, e.g. Salvatore, Perez, Hytes, etc. We could probably add Perez to Western Europe and maybe form a group of "Americas" with Hytes and Salvatore?

I have sent out several reminders, not only for the polls but also in case somebody want to change their nationality and in regard to Fed Cup. I'm not really getting a lot of feedback back, especially as the score was tied and is pisses me off a little bit

So: if you guys are okay with the new format of Fed Cup including Geographical Groups, post here and support it :p

I liked it!

I see 14 teams right now. Qualification in the new system works just like old system but I don't see 16 teams for the 8 spots.

Since we need 12 teams at Finals, we may adjust it and give spot for the 2 semifinalists of the previous edition (Sweden and Australia) and WG teams (USA, Russia, South Korea (South East) and Uzbekistan (Middle Europe)) So it would be 8 teams directly qualified + 8 teams fighting for the other 4 spots.

Anyway, let's see if we grab new players for the new season and then we can re-do the math

finals

host - selected from already qualified

01 new zealand 2019 champions
02 germany 2019 runner-up
03 sweden 2019 semifinalists
04 australia 2019 semifinalits
05 uzbekistan 2019 play-off winner
06 usa 2019 play-off winner
07 south korea 2019 play-off winner
08 russia 2019 play-off winner
09 2020 qualifier
10 2020 qualifier
11 2020 qualifier
12 2020 qualifier

qualifiers

two groups - teams picked randomly from hat
top 2 from each group qualify

or

four groups - teams picked randomly from hat
top team from each group qualify

I know  thanks for your support!!

You're right, I didn't pay attention to the numbers, sorry. I like the idea of giving 2 spots to the semfinalists rather than Wildcards, same for 8 direct accepted teams (just like having these teams in the World Group) and 8 teams fighting for the remaining 4 spots. :D

Sounds like a plan, @Broseghini suggested the same :D
