cold handshake and some bad words at the net from Ostapenko

Ostapenko was 5-0 in teh 2nd, than Sevastova fights back to 4-5 and serves two DF in a horrible service game..

What a weird match. I wonder what Ostapenko said at the net lol.

Honestly, all Sevastova had to do was keep the ball in play. Alona did the rest. Can't see Sevastova making it deeper tho with so many gifts sent her way.

Ostapenko played well....for 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes aside this one was 16-3 to Nastja. By the end Anastasija was in total control and and was pretty much toying with Jelena. It almost felt like Nastja gifted Jelena the final game of the 2nd set so she could establish her superiority in the final set. Ostapenko must be seething right now. I suspect everyone in her entourage will be in hiding right now to avoid her wrath. Can't say I blame them.

I don't know what Jelena said, but I understand her frustrations given that it was a home tie. HOWEVER just to repeat, Sevastova never said she needed back surgery, that was some moron tennis journalist. She just wasn't well enough to play.

I better see this same cynicism for Angelique Kerber!! Mertens already won today and no one criticised her for ditching her team. ;)

Anyway this match was a bit of a mess, albeit with some fun rallies and some good droppers (the court is playing fast). Nastija tried to go on one of her trademark 2nd set walkabouts but almost came back from 5-0 before her serve ditched her. Sigh. Final set was much better, she punished those 2nd serves of Oyster Pancake (as she should). The best moment was Nasty cringing when her serve (a fault) bounced off the court and landed square on the windshield of the Porsche.

Aljona was defending QF points here, another ranking drop imminent. At least she leaves Stuttgart with endless frequent flyer miles.

Jel O needs to drop to internationals, she might have stood a better chance winning a match or two in Istanbul.

Good win for Sevastova, I wonder if she will share what was commented at the net!

Mertens lost to Dasha in straights FYI.
