I've read on her website: Currently, Sam does not have a private coach. The commitment with Gigi was for 20 weeks. They both did a great job, so why?

yep you can't make the presumption that Fernandez wanted to take a long term role as a coach. Your basically kissing your life away for most of the year and it's not she would need the money that desperately.

:wavey: I'm sure there's a decent coach out there to help her out. The issue was Sam's earnings, but now she has been successful in doubles she can afford the staff she needs. We have to remember before the Aussie Open she didn't even have an apparell sponsor

Sam was also in Tampa training for the majority of those twenty weeks, which is where Gigi has a home. Gigi only travelled with Sam to Sydney, AO, and Tokyo. As switz already mentioned, Gigi is set financially for the rest of her life. Why would she want to do the fairly thankless job of being a travelling coach for roughly half the year?

I think another part of the issue may have been a personality conflict. Sam is a very easy-going and laid back person. Gigi, as anyone who has seen her play competitively will attest to, is far from that. That can definitely create some tension. My guess is that Sam initially thought she needed a coach who would give her a kick in the ass in order to get motivated, but decided she's got enough motivation on her own.

I hope she does stick with Gigi though at least on a part-time basis, maybe during the US summer circuit and the off season. She's achieved some fantastic results with her and it would be silly to throw that away completely.

Not wanting to quote your whole post CAA#1, but I whole-heartedly agree with you.

Sam has the talent, and I think GF has done more than enough to justify SS keeping her as her coach.

Maybe there is a personality conflict?
