among those surviving to vulture this MD are Serena Williams, Marion Bartoli (who will not play the Olympics), JaJa Jankovic (from down the road in San Diego), Domi Cibulkova and Wild Card Daniela Hantuchova

Lindsay Davenport should take a WC and win this Premier 470

Wow. The entry list looked pretty solid when it first came out but now it is pretty depleted. Reminds me of Bangalore, etc. Hopefully Serena stays entered. I think earlier in the year when she told us she had her ranking goal was but she wouldn't tell us what it was - I think it is becoming pretty apparent.

last year Serena was desperate to play in Stanford so that she would be SEED for the USO ... this year she is in the Wimbledon FINAL and assured herself a Top 4 SEED @ Olympics so she does not have any reason to play here unless they are giving her alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The most worrying thing is that 80% of the players pulling out here will withdraw from Carlsbad as well, because playing 1 tournament in the US just before Olympics doesn't make sense at all.

if these players don't want to bother to fly to the US to vulture two P470, then why would they bother to fly there to just vulture one

Can't blame them, scheduling a tournament right after a GS so far away...The WTA needs to look at this issue for the next Olympics because everyone is losing out.

The only decent event will be Cinncinati and I can see New Haven doing a bit better than previous years.

Tamira didn't fulfill Fed Cup requirements so she didn't qualify for the OG. No idea why she's out of Stanford, though.
