:hysteric:

First set, Petra was quite good and just playing how she needed to. Won the set off a single break off the Begu serve, seemed to be cruising.

In the second set, she had 30-30 on Begu's first two service games, Begu held both to lead 2-1. Then Shitra showed up, Petra basically lost 4 games with unforced errors to drop the set 1-6. Begu was peaking in that second set through, retrieving all the balls like her last name was Wozniacki :eek:h:

In the third, the GOATra from yesterday's Vesnina match appeared and basically just wiped the floor with Begu. Serve, returns, groundstrokes peaking in this third set.

Basically a match of two (or three?) halves from Petra, unpredictable as usual from her :hysteric: 95 minutes for a 3-set match

QF against Aljona could be very interesting, but she can't afford to have any lapses there.

Pretty hilarious she thinks she need to be more aggressive and hit harder against Ostapenko.

Consecutive wins are always nice, especially against decent players.

Typical Petra match, brilliant at times, terrible at others. Serve looks good - unless she double faults. Movement not bad. Ball striking going well. Just the usual mental lapses to lose a set to a player she should have beaten much easier.

Looking forward to seeing her and Ostapenko. Those balls better watch out!

That second set was bizarre.Going by her face, Petra herself couldn't believe the errors she was making which were highly uncharacteristic. Begu just gave up in set 3

Such a horrid player, this Begu, really is. No weapons, no game, just nothing. If Shitra didnt decide to play baseball in the 2nd, this could have been done much sooner. Players like Begu are an unnecessary part of WTA, really.

No weapons?? She has such long limbs, basically forehand, backhand, serve, everything can be a weapon... Her game is best on clay though.

I think Petra is trying things out this tournament AND this is the fittest I've ever seen her. She is chipping the ball a lot and playing a number of orthodox volleys, finishing points with a mixture of power and touch. It's a work in progress but it's good to see her try these things because she certainly has/had the touch before to do this. The second set lapse was down to her trying to win differently and then she suddenly couldn't find her A game. She never looked overly concerned by it. Hope she thumps Ostepenko.

As for the second set mess:

Czech sources claim Petra struggled for a while with the lights in the arena and sometimes couldn't see the ball properly, hence the horrible mistakes and homeruns.

Congrats anyway.

Are you by any chance referring to what she said to her coach during one of the breaks? She said "I can't see it" but I had though she did not mean it literally but more like "I can't get the right way to hit the ball".
