Ostapenko will have to learn to fight from behind to be a great competitor. She obviously hates to not be the dominating player but with Petra at her best, you have to stay with her until the storm calms down a bit! It means not always going for the shots, and keeping the ball in play... that's not Jelena's temper, we know, but sometime that's how you win - and actually that's what Petra did the few times Jelena was dictating.

Petra :yeah:

I tuned in late and missed the first set.

Such a contrast! Petra all calm and mature and polite; Penko keeping up a stream of petulant kvetching. Petra executing her strategy and not getting put off when she lost a point or got pushed to deuce; Penko enraged by her own errors. Petra smiling; Penko’s forehead knotted in a constant scowl, bitching at the ballkids, at the ump, and of course, treating her box to a neverending tirade.

Penko’s mom is a good looking woman, and her brat spawn could be too. But if she doesn’t change her attitude, the lines of anger will be irrevocably etched into her face.

Petra isn’t carrying a single excess pound right now. And those who think that the loss of fat diminishes her weight of shot are clearly mistaken.

This match was all about indoor experience. If this had been on clay and outdoor, I think Aljona would have been able to defend more effectively and would have had more time to set up her own aggressive shots.

Very satisfying to see the brat get steamrolled.

LOL @ that handshake. Petra immediately has to wipe the contamination off on her skort.

Love Ostapenko but Petra in full flight is still awe-inspiring. The penultimate point of the first set when ALL her hand skills were on display as Ostapenko was hammering shots at her at net... :hearts:

Expose that hack basher Goerges next, and then Wozniacki in the final too!
