#236 - Boy, Girl, Vocal Groups

Jackson 5 - "Who's Loving You" F: 18th

Not too much I have to comment on actual topic. Only thing is: Game was that bad (with few exceptions).

Game 237 - Dichotomy - Upbeat Sadness

Smerz - "No Harm"

SF: 8th; F: 11th

Probably the hardest theme. It was so tough to find a song that has nice upbeat bass + being sung in a sad way as well. (or having a sad lyrics etc.) I know when I commented a song by Smerz, calling "Because", was so sad for yearly game and it finished 3rd. With few researches I thought this song was a perfect fit, so I submitted this one.

Placement was alright. I was surprised to see Alin's 12.

Game 238 - US Open State Of Mind

Gil Scott Heron - "New York City"

SF: 2nd; F: 6th

US Open is our 4th Grand Slam of year and New York is its host. We had to submit song that reminds us of US Open, so "New York City" has that Manhattan vibe, and I adore tennis, colourful events and excitement of NY. :)

No shame in nominating the song from "It's Your World"! Fantastic discovery for me and I am satisfied with the result.

Game 239 - Melismatic vocals

Sade - "Kiss Of Life"

SF: 3rd; F: 1st

aerosmash picked "Melismatic vocals". Those are the ones that Mariah Carey can produce without any difficulty.
I picked Sade. She doesn't overuse them, but when does, there is a fine touch of use and it's like honey for ears. I won this game in the end. Could not believe only that people still nominated songs with no melisma in them (JoJo's song - from beginning to end in auto tune)...
Also, I believe that Sade's music is like a therapy and her angelic voice.

Game 240 - A Touch Of Madness

Muteual Mortiary - "Hateless Insanity"

SF: 6th; F: 16th

A Touch Of Madness was interesting game after all. I went with discovery band Muteual Mortiary. Firstly, I didn't like the vocals. After several repeats it was catchier and more interesting, so I've decided to choose this song.
How I didn't expect this entry to be in the Final, I am happy with its qualification and placement.

Game 241 - Explicit Content

Spice - "Sheet"

SF: 6th; F: 6th

This game really had a great potential, but it ended up with few obvious vultures and boring songs. :tape:

I had heard for Spice just randomly. One my roommate just told me: "You must watch this"!
It was Spice's song "So Mi Like It"! I fell in love with her work and I truly appreciate everything she works.
Have watched few live shows on YTB and they are truly messy, but with nice touch of vulgarity.
Whoever wants to check her work, just visit YTB.

6th place in both SF and F! :eek:h: I am really glad for this result, one of the most unexpected ones.
I am sorry for Perun, because he didn't like it, but I had my comments ready for his ruthless attack on her use of auto tune.

Game 242 - Touched by the Hand of Goth

The Cult - "Spiritwalker"

SF: 2nd; F: 4th

Joris won the US Game. He decided to pick the theme that really describes his taste: Goth.
Although I didn't agree with him few of genres he put in description are that similar to Goth, but it was his game, so he expanded it a little bit.

The Cult is a cult goth band and they were pretty famous. Spiritwalker is my favourite song by The Cult.
Result wise, Top 5 was somehow expected and I knew it would attract BSG mass. :)

Game 243 - Music Of Japan

Cindy - "Angel Touch"

SF: 10th (81 points) ; F: 20th (34 points)

Guess who won "Melismatic vocals" edition? :eek:h:
I decided to pick "Music Of Japan" to please TIEFSEE and few more players that wanted to CHOOSE this one.
Cindy's discography is pretty simple, she recorded mostly songs for famous anime movies and series. This one comes from "Nanitado - Doki doki no disco". Nice future funk song it was for me.
Back to my game, well 20th position was hard hit in my face, but man, this game truly produced some gems. There were even 2 players that nominated the same act, Taeko Ohnuki (aerosmash and Silent Bird), with aerosmash ended up winning! :eek:h:
I chose this song because Cindy has a nice voice, great control and when going up it's just so sweet that I really want to go back to my childhood, going to my favourite candy shop and buy something really sweet, like "Apple Candy".

All in all, I was happy that I could satisfy few people with theme's choice after those hard themes :eek:h: and this game just pleases my heart. There are "themes" I am keeping right now, but if I win, they will be released. Hehe

Game 244 - SilverPersian's Isle Of dipshits

Alan Hawkshaw - "Sheer Elegance"

SF: 16th (xx points) ; F: DNQ

Game 245 - Not For The Color Blind

Alan Parker ft. Alan Hawkshaw - "Blue Haze"

SF: 13th (xx points) ; F: DNQ

I am was truly shocked with reviews for these 2 songs... Semen seeds and "Sheer Elegance" just don't go together.
Also, could not believe that Blue Haze was better placed than "Sheer Elegance". Peak BSG.

Here are few sentences about Alan Hawkshaw:

"Session keyboardist and arranger Alan Hawkshaw has worked with Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin, Dusty Springfield, Barbra Streisand, and Olivia Newton-John. Just as notably, Hawkshaw was a member of Love & Kisses, a campy late '70s disco outfit that released a trio of albums on Casablanca and scored the theme song for the movie Thank God It's Friday. Earlier in his career, he was in Emile Ford's Checkmates and also spent a brief time in the Shadows during the early '70s, playing on their "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue."

Hawkshaw has also done plenty of admirable work on his own. In addition to releasing a number of solo records since the late '70s, he has scored a number of television themes for British television, including those for Countdown, Love Hurts, and Grange Hill. His score for 1979's The Silent Witness won the Ivor Novello Award."

I guess people would check his more famous songs and change the opinion about him. :ras:

Game 246 - Blame It On YouTube

Sofrito - "Mongo Santamaria"

SF: 8th (xx points) ; F: 13th (xx points)

This theme says it all. I really don't know much about Argentinian music, so I checked one list from site I usually visit.
Nice way to discover music you had not heard and I am pretty glad that this jazz piece was in the final. :)
The album is from 1976.

Game 247 - Lucky Eight

Furniture - "Brilliant Mind"

SF: 6th (xx points) ; F: 11th (xx points)

aerosmash won the edition and choose "Lucky Eight". We needed to choose a song that is:
a) from 80's
b) have multiples of 8 (8,16,24 etc)
c) that has an eight in title.

I choose the song from 80's. Easily. I saw how Alin was successful with this band, so I wanted to try with this fine selection. I am glad I finished 11th. SB won in the end with dreamy number of Anna Domino. :hearts:

Not satisfying results, but it's visible there is a new shift of players. No matter what the results are, I will send only what I like.

Game 248 - Open

Denis & Denis - "Program tvog kompjutera"

SF: 2nd (xx points) ; F: 1st (xx points)

Upcoming edition was: Open. I though: "Fuck! No, again this shit..."
Well, it turned out to be the best possible outcome I have never dreamed of!!!

Denis & Denis is Croatian electro-pop band, Rijeka. Formed by: synth Davor Tolja, famous singer Marina Perazic and guitarist Edi Kraljic. They blasted on ex-Yu scene like no one. Catchy synth, nice poppy vocals, 80's were dying for something new. This particular song "Programme of your computer" is from album "Cuvaj se!" from 1984. I thought let's try to send another ex-Yu song. This song is a hidden gem and I have just waited for perfect opportunity to nominate it. So happy people also appreciated this song and awarded with 1st place in the final.

Game 249 - Generation X

Toni Braxton - "Spanish Guitar"

SF: 9th (xx points) ; F: 15th (xx points)

Next theme was Generation X.

We had to pick the artist that was born around my father's age, but it was from year 1953 to 1968, IIRC.

I chose Toni Braxton because she had mega hit "Unbreak My Heart", which was sung emotionally. Spanish Guitar was released in 2000. I like her alto voice.
