Just as well she's using her (SR) for Miami, as she didn't get a WC for it ( She probably new that anyway).

All young players got them, plus Raducanu who was announced previously.

Sofia's loss to Elena not looking to bad at all right now.
Always makes you feel a little better when the player who beats you goes on to the final, maybe even winning it.
Small consolation, but that match was a very good one indeed.

I don't know.

In one hand... yes it gives a small moral victory for Sofia. On the other hand though, Elena got the victory, ultimately moved on to the final with the points & the money, and Sofia is in Miami practicing in hopes of a better draw in the Miami Open.

It's just the way I usually think on these things. :dunno:

Rybakina looks kind of unplayable, she has so much power, I'm honestly proud of Sofia pushing her hard. She seems able to hit winners easily despite the slow surface, actually the slow surface makes it easier for her to be in good position to hit shots. She looks scary (Sabalenka as well of course, and Swiatek, those 3 looks above everyone else right now).

We all hope she gets a better draw in Miami.
Just stay away from four or five players and hopefully she will get some wins.
So many players are very even, she's not far away from a good showing, she just has to keep believing, things will turn.

Don't get me wrong, Sofia played some of her best looking tennis this year in Indian Wells. In both matches, she went out there with a solid game plan, which was good to see. If that was Joyce's early influence, then as I've said in the match summaries, "Pay The Man!"

I just hope Miami goes well for her.

Sofia practicing on Sunday 12.00pm on court 15 with Madison Brengle.
Not sure Brengle's serve will help her get much practice for the bigger servers.

Sofia's section of the draw. She gets a qualifier in the first round.

Seems like lately, she can't seem to shake off Kalinina from her area. a real hodge-podge section if there was one. :dunno:
Let's look on the bright side, if she gets past Kalinina, she can only face ONE of, Maria, Bianca or Emma.

With Indian Wells over, it's time to look at the rankings.

RANKING UPDATE :mic:

On the WTA website, Sofia's singles ranking moves up 6 spots from two weeks ago, to 164. As for Monday's singles live ranking, the Miami first round points have already been added, and Sofia is temporarily up 6 spots to 158.

Storm Hunter is her qualifier she plays in Round 1.
Much better than Muchova

Miami is exactly 12 hours behind Perth, so I would either like her to play at 11.00am local time (11.pm here), or play in the night session from say 7..pm local (7.00am here), just being selfish obviously.
At least it's better than IW time which was horrible for me

I want to say Storm Hunter nee Sanders is a kind draw for Sonya but it still feels her form is unpredictable, even with the flashes of promise we have seen this year.

I agree with Tony, that Muchova probably would have been the worst first round opponent for Sofia, so Hunter is not a deal breaker for me.

I tend to just hope for the best for her right now. 🙏 Though when it come to Indian Wells, there was a lot more pep to her step that's been sorely lacking for a while.
