.........she is in danger of not getting into the main draw as a lucky loser even though she is the top seed?

Not sure I like the new rule change about it being a lottery, but what a shame it would be for her to lose two-straight Grand Slam qualifiers as the top seed and still not be able to get in the Main Draw automatically as a Lucky Loser?

Does anyone know why this particular rule was changed?

it was changed so the lucky losers could be a real "lucky" loser. it adds a little bit of luck to the situation ;)

i thought she would be in the main draw for wimbledon though  when were the list made?

I think it might be changed because some players tanked their matches knowing that they will enter MD as LLs... I don't like this rule though

it was to avoid situation were matches were fixed

for example where doubles partners/friends/compatriots/training partners would decide to allow the lower ranked player to win, knowing the higher ranked would make the main draw anyway

I doubt that happens very often in a Grand Slam, where the points are pretty big evenm for qualifying.

This would happen more in lower tier events and challengers. If that's their reasoning behind it, then they should change it for those events too, not just the Grand Slams.

That's exactly what happened to her at RG, she didn't know about the rule change and sorta tanked the 3rd set of Q3 and didn't get into the MD as the qualy top seed

Yes, and in such situations - which are only natural - she is inadvertently harming the seed below her. This new system is fairer, though not perfect.

There is no shortage of examples concerning athletes/coaches being oblivious to the rules of the sport they play.

Lucky loser is drawn among the four highest seeded losers in the third round of qualification if I'm not mistaken.

so, what's the rule now? anyone?
final rd of qualifiers if there are any LL spots available

One of the 4 highest ranked LL gets drawn out at random, yes they are truly lucky :p

Then why not making it completely 'honest' and drawing someone from ALL last qualifying round losers?

It should be highest ranked player ESPECIALLY when they are ranked high enough for direct entry anyways...ie. Romina has been ranked in top 100 since bloody Rome...damn those cut off dates...!!! She mmisses two GS direct entries being in the top 100 for both of them!!!

It's unfair in a way.....but i bet people wont complain if their favourite player got through to the main draw in this way!
