I think she is just spreading her energy more, to be at her best during the Olympics. I wonder, with 500.000 Covid casualties, if she will perform in the U.S. this year. But there will be a point, where she will need lots of points to secure a good ranking at the Olympics, with all those titles to defend ...

Frustrating, she would have had a great chance to collect another WTA title here. Perhaps she would rather focus her energy on Dubai and Miami.

The thing is , it’s almost impossible to get both Doha and Dubai as tournament wins , because they are so close to each other and the lists are packed .
and since Doha is the first one ( this year) ,you are going to put more energy into it ,leaving you almost empty for Dubai . And when Halep goes to a tournament , the goal is to win it ( she has said it numerous times that she will not enter a tournament unless she is ready to give 100% of what she has ) .
this year she can get no points from Doha , and Dubai is the one with 900 points ( last year she gave it all for Dubai after an insanely tough draw and she had to withdraw from Doha and Indian Wells ) .
The only times she played both Doha and Dubai was when she lost in round 1 in both of them ( 2016) and when she had just won fedcup with the Czech Republic in 2019 ( and for Dubai she was done energy wise , and for Doha she was done after she lost the second set to Mertens ) .

So sick of WTA players not showing up to tournaments. You have basically been off tour for 80% of the past year. Why is it so hard to honor commitments?

WTA really should have taken the average of the two years’ tournaments instead of the better one if the better tournament was 2019/pre-Covid 2020. It still provides half points for the girls who didn’t want to risk their health in the pandemic but doesn’t allow players to just skip tournaments because they won them last year. If Halep could put on points here she wouldn’t have withdrawn. Same with Teichmann choosing to play Lexington instead of Prague. Would also have prevented situations like Konta and Martic being Top 20 in spite of losing R1 every week.

The schedueling of Doha Dubai is simply bad for the top players . No one would rather win the 500 tournament over the 1000 tournament. But putting the 500 one before the 1000 one , either makes the players tank at first to focus on the bigger one , or give it their all and then they suck at the big one.
And Doha/ Dubai is always one of the strongest premiers out there , so why don’t they change the dates ?

Smart scheduling decision, points & $$$ wise to focus on Dubai & Miami, if she's playing that latter.
Clay season is a couple of months away, this is her busiest season.

Halep won Dubai 2020 so she's not adding any points in Middle East this year.

Moving forward Halep has a lot of points to defend. She reached the semis of Miami Open in 2019; lost in the finals of 2019 Mutua Madrid; won Rome 2020, etc.

It is so hard to understand that players want to put their OWN HEALTH first over everything else???...if you are not healthy, then you are for sure not going to play tennis ever again...

1000 - ATP style points this year.
No, it's still 900 points.

WTA only changed the name.

These girls are so fragile.

If you look at the entry list, today, you could conclude that Simona could have easily gained a lot of momentum in Qatar. Self confidence is also valuable, as a fan I had rather seen her play the entire Middle East Swing and maybe not America.
