BOL, Croatia (April 30) -- Second-seeded Silvia Farina Elia of Italy was eliminated by Silvija Talaja of Croatia 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 Wednesday in the second round of the Croatian Bol Ladies Open.
The 96th-ranked Talaja, a finalist here in 1996, advanced to her second WTA Tour quarterfinal of the season.
In other second-round action, Tathiana Garbin of Italy ousted Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, and Ludmila Cervanova of Slovakia defeated Angelika Roesch of Germany 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-1.
In first-round matches, sixth-seeded Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia beat Darija Jurak of Croatia 6-3, 6-2, Anna Lena Groenefeld of Germany defeated Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-1, and Samantha Reeves of the United States ousted Karolina Sprem of Croatia, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
I'm glad that Silvija can get a few wins in (finally) especially in Croatia.
Silvia - What's up with her? She's having a terrible year thus far and the clay is not helping her at all, or so it seems. She's gonna be in big trouble after Strasbourg if she can't pick it up. Come on Silvia
