Actually, 4th. Not that it makes a real difference. ;)

The seedings should be:
1) Ai Sugiyama
2) Tamarine Tanasugarn
3) Katarina Srebotnik
4) Shinobu Asagoe
I believe Tanasugarn's playing in Moscow, so the no.3 seeding should go to Shinobu.

It's confirmed.

Shinobu will play only 2 more events this season: Tokyo & Pattaya. :(

I really hope she does well and finishes the year where she currently is...

I still don't understand why Shinobu didn't participate in Shanghai when she had a great chance to do well there.

Personally, I think it would've been a better idea for Shinobu to play in Bali, Shanghai, Tokyo and Pattaya to boost up her rankings. If she did well in those four tournaments, we would've seen two Japanese in the top twenty for the first time since 1995

Yes we all think Shinobu should have played more. But she has had a great year (particularly last six months) and lets just be happy for this and support her now in the final two events of the year.

GO SHINOBU! :D

We're all proud of Shinobu, but the thing that frustrates me is that she has the potential to be ranked much much higher this year, but doesn't play enough. She barely plays over 20 tourneys each season, and it's a real pity.

However, I support her reasons (whatever they are) and I hope she gets to the SF at least at Tokyo. Good luck.

Tammy withdrew from Moscow & Filderstadt and will play Tokyo instead. :)
I feel embarassed now  It's just like me to say things without thinking things through. I just read another post which said that Tammy would rather play in Japan in the main draw rather than qualify in Moscow. I like Tammy a lot, but I'm dissapointed that Shinobu didn't get the no.3 seeding and that Sarah Taylor and others who are at the bottom of the main draw would probably have to qualify because of Tammy's late entrance

kku, once you're in the MD, you can't be relegated to qualifying. So Sarah Taylor, etc are safe. Tammy must have got in when other players withdrew.

There's no significant difference between 3rd & 4th seed, so I don't think Shinobu will be too disappointed. ;)

Shinobu lost in round 2!!
This happened because she doesn't play enough tournaments. This title was hers for the taking, especially after Ai pulled out with an injury. :fiery:

What happened to Shinobu??
Is she injured now?? She withdrew from Pataya...

well, good luck in 2004!!!
I have no idea what's going on with her at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised she's just decided to call it a season.

If that's the case, I'm really annoyed because she had a wonderful opportunity to get a seeding at the Aus Open next year...

Here's her BBS, if anybody's interested to post a message ;)

Really. Shinobu's done for the year? Well..she did
have one of hell of an outstanding year to say the
least. She's gotta rest.

P.S Danker- what's with that goofy looking new
hairstyle on Nakashima Mika? lol. Saw it on
Real Guide Japan - clip of her plugging her latest
music release. LOL.

really is...the songs she wrote are good. Oh...the
actress thing is interesting too. :)
