QUEBEC CITY -- Russian teen Maria Sharapova won the Bell Challenge tennis title Sunday when Milagros Sequera quit after breaking her left ankle at the start of the second set.

Sequera, the Pan Am Games champion, injured herself running for a ball at deuce in the first game of the second set. She was examined by a trainer, then taken to a hospital.

Sharapova won the first set 6-2.

It's the second WTA Tour title for the 16-year-old Sharapova, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Her first career championship came at last month's Japan Open.

Already building up legendary status.
Yup, but obvious: As I read on other threads on this topic, even the veterans and tennis experts couldn't remember an incident, in which a female player forced her opponent to actually BREAK one of her bones during a match. So it will be a legend which is inevitably tied with Maria's name! ;)
