There's no webcam or I'd make sure to watch it.
Nastya still has a match to win. Coming off a tier I win, she might not be as sharp as she was in Moscow.
Now that Lena's healthy, it's too bad the season's ending.
Off topic, but where does Lena start in 2004?

It seems as if the mono has ruined the whole year for Lena.
So I like that she's playing doubles. She must feel good now.
If Lena can end the season feeling like she can beat the top players, it should make November and December more fun for her. Anticipating next year.

If Lena does beat Nastya on Thursday, we have to discuss Olga B.

This week we both want Lena to beat good players.
But in Quebec, Lena will have to beat some players ranked beyond the top 50 to get to Maria.
If Lena can beat Masha and hold up that trophy to end her year, that's the best way to do it.
Of course, if Lena wins the tourny and Masha loses early, that's ok.

I don't think there's that many top 50 players in Quebec now...

All winnable matches for Lena, including possibly Maria in the final... but that's far away.

Let's hope Myskina starts playing like crap again so Lena has a chance of winning her next match.

Note for Lena... incase you read this board, honey:

Nastya says she's tired.

DO NOT TRY TO BE SUPERWOMAN AND HIT WINNERS EVERY POINT. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BE STUPID FOR THIS MATCH.

Listen to me, hon... I know what's best.

Lena

Lena could really use this win. Another match against Lindsay would be great. But I won't look ahead. Nastya's going for 10 straight.

I really want Lena to take out that Martina/Cara team. I want wins!

If Lena does read this, she must think we're crazy.

Moscow felt so different. I knew if Lena played Nastya I could watch the match. I also thought the winner might win the tournament. Now, I'll know when I get home. And the winner has a tough road ahead.
Lena, do what Leena says - please cut down the UE's and make Nastya hit winners.

She already thinks I'm crazy. But, she's too nice and sweet to say it. Yay.

Lena knows she has a true fan, that's the important thing.
Winning tomorrow is also an important thing.
If Lena's only playing two or so more tournaments, every match is vital.
She has to not give points away. Then, Lena has a great chance.
And with Lindsay just coming back, who knows how far Lena can go this week?

I really don't care if Lena wins tomorrow.

The big thing for her now is to try being consistent. That means winning matches she should.

1) That builds her confidence.

2) It helps her ranking a lot... since she has many 1st round losses counting towards her Best 17.

A decent goal for Lena would be to get seeded for Aussie Open. She's right on the bubble, since she'll be 29 after Filderstadt... and is defending QF Luxembourg, and SF Gold Coast until then.

I agree. Lena should be able to get herself a win against inferior opponents, even if she's not at her best.
I also like the level of play Lena showed in both Capriati matches. Consistency of play at that level will beat most of the top 15.

But I believe in one match at a time. And for Lena, this match is the next match. And I hope she plays to the Capriati level.
If Nastya wins, I want it to be a very high level match. One that means they both can be serious factors in Melbourne.

Congrats Lena, I'm pleasantly surprised.

You're salvaging this disastrous year you've had... and proving that when you're healthy... you are a Top 20 player. :)

Keep fighting in the next round! I know you have this phobia of always losing the in the QF's... but let's break it for this tournament!

Drive your Porsche to the title! Yeah, that was lame... but, oh well.

Lena

Lena will play Lindsay Davenport for the 5th time in the Quarterfinal.

As we all know, Lindsay has beat Lena every time they have played... all 3-setters, except their match at Indian Wells this year, where Lena played terribly.

Can Lena beat Lindsay this time? Maybe. It's about damn time Lena beats her.

2 & 3 sounds about right if Lena plays her game. Nice win there.
What happened in the Olga B. match? To beat Nastya and lose to Olga seems really unusual.
