I saw this summary of Serena's career on another messageboard and thought wow. When you think about it she is only a part time players. How impressive!!
SERENA'S RECORD AT THE END OF 2001 SEASON.

She never plays a full schedule in four years on the WTA tour. In 1998 she played 11 tournaments. In 1999 she played 12 tournaments. In 2000 she played 11 tournaments. In 2001 she played 10 tournaments. She plays about 40% less tennis than the rest of the top players in the WTA tour yearly (except for Venus). But her record speaks volume. So, here are Serena’s career standings:

Total Tournament played as a Pro..........44
Total Titles won from 44 tournaments......21
Total Matches played in 44 tournaments...180
Total Matches won out of 180 matches.....147
Career Winning percentage....(147-33) = 82 %
Money earned from 44Trn........$6,056,324.00

TITLES:

-11 Singles titles (1 Grand Slam, 5 Tier I, 5 Tier II).
-8 Doubles Titles with Venus ( including one Olympic Gold Medal, and a career GRAND Grand Slam-All four Doubles Grand Slam Titles in a career, only 5 women teams has done it).
-2 Mixed Doubles Grand Slams with Max Mirnyi

Grand Slams Titles = 7 Titles: 1 Singles, 4 Doubles, and 2 Mixed Doubles.

WTA RECORDS:

1. The Lowest ranked player to win a Tier 1 tournament-Indian Wells 1999, while ranked #21(beating 3 top 10 players for that title: Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport, and Mary Pierce).

2. Broke Monica Seles record of the fastest player to beat 5 or more top 10 players upon joining the WTA tour.

3. Starting beating the WTA top 10 players while still ranked #301. The lowest ranked player with wins over top 10 players.

4. The lowest ranked player to win the US Open title( beating 3 top 10 players for it).
5. The most ACES served in a single tournament by a woman, 62 Aces at the 1999 US Open (She also served 47 Aces at Wimbledon 2001 in only 5 matches while only getting to the quarter finals , the most at Wimbledon by a woman).

6. The only player in all of tennis, men and women, to ever serve a set at 100% First Serve (a perfect set US Open 2001 semifinals against world #1 Martina Hingis).

7. New: - The first player in the history of the WTA Year End Championship Event to win it at the first attempt (11-04-2001).
HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Won her first Grand Slam in only her second year on the tour.

2. Stop Steffi Graf 4 years, 20 consecutive wins as a finalist.

3. Took only 15 months on the tour and 15 tournaments played to get in the WTA top 10 ( ranked in the top 10 ever since).

4. One of 20 players in the Open Era to joined the WTA Elite Club for winning 5 or more tournaments in a calendar year.

5. One of only 4 women to win the US Open Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles titles( the others being Martina Navtravola, Billy Jean King, and Margaret Court.

6. Career Highest Ranking with a part-time schedule is # 4 ( September 1999- March 2000.

7. Had the longest match winning streak for the year 1999, which included getting her first WTA championship title (16 match winning streak ended by a loss to Venus at the 1999 Ericsson finals).
This is record of the woman who said she will take down anyone in her path to the #1 spot next year. Go Girl! Take no prisoners.

NIce post. What board was that BTW?

I hope Serena keeps her word about playing more next year. She has such potential, far more than Venus IMO. I think she has the more complete game. Also, I was so impressed by that point when she broke the string in the match against Henin and immediately barreled into the net and just kept blocking back those balls until she won. Such intelligent play! I look forward to seeing her more in 2002.

Or maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up as yet but just wait to see if she actually delivers. I hope she does!
TC

I always thought this girl is better than Venus.
Even her father had said that. She just need to
put it all together.

Don't be deceived by that no 10 ranking .
Serena can beat anybody on any given
day.
I'm impressed with this poster who get so much facts and stats to back it up. You must be the real knowledgeable tennis fan.
Good post and good job serena.

How times change.. Little did we know back then that 2002 would be the greatest year of her life.. It's awesome.. Maybe I'll be saying the same thing in a few years about 2007 (hopefully)

When I hear those serving stats, I get sad.

The serve hasn't been the same since the knee surgery

Damn somebody went back in the day. She set a lot of those records before she even won her first slam. Laughing at her playing 40% less than the other top players. Today, it's 80%.

The most shocking thing of all is that this thread was on this board for 5 years and only got 3 replies.:haha: Boy have times changed.

I just saw this a couple months ago thanks to someone uploading it to the forum. ;)

Anyway, her serve was AMAZING.

I had no idea Serena had such a great serve. Certainly could have been the best ever *and still can* However, a lot of things have to 'fall into place' for that to happen to anyone (Graf, cough cough....stab, stab).
