DON'T LOOK for tennis star Serena Williams to be entering any marathons.

She had agreed to headline the recent Fannie Mae Foundation's "Help the Homeless" walkathon in Washington, according to the Washington Post, but then refused to walk "after clubbing into the wee hours." Sources told the Post that foundation president Stacey Davis "had to coax Williams into trudging two blocks of the 25-block march before she was whisked into a waiting car."

lol. I can relate though, who hasn't let their social life interfere with their everyday duties at one time or another in their life

Remember my "rigged draw" topic during the US open? Remember what the point of it was? How, if you get part of the story, it paints one picture. But if you get more of the info, it can paint an entirely different portait.

A quote from Fannie May spokesperson Esther Rege: "Serena was great. She did everything she was supposed to do. We did excuse her early."

Why did she jump in a car and ride off after only a couple of blocks? She had to catch a flight for Las Vegas, to fulfill her commitment to the "Players that Care" fundraiser for ovarian cancer research. How irresponsible!

Indeed... how irresponsible of Serena to try to fufil as many commitments as possible Pfft. She should've pulled out of one of it so she can be booed.

I'm glad that we finally got the other side of this story.

Perhaps everyone should write to the SF Chronicle, and they'll print a retraction, because none of that was in the article I was pointed towards, and subsequently posted on this board.

I'm sure the Fannie Mae Foundation isn't complaining. They just got themselves some extra publicity with these sorts of "reports." Maybe it worked out even better for them...though not for necessarily for Serena.
