I'm not suggesting that there is a sibling rivalry, but I believe that if Serena makes a serious push towards attaining the number 1 ranking, that it may provide that much needed SPARK to motivate Venus to where, most of us agree, she should be ranked!

I still remember that look on Venus' face when Serena won that 1st family Grand slam title. It sure did light a fire under Venus, and she's been hot ever since.

If Serena gains, or comes within a few points of that ranking, I believe that Venus will produce and sustain some of the most exciting tennis that we fans have ever seen - and that will propel her to her rightful place on the throne!

Any opinions?

I agree 100%. If Serena starts to make a serious grab for number 1, you will see Venus with a fire under her as*. There is no way Venus will let Serena get to that number 1 spot before her.

I agree. I'd been meaning to make this point a long time ago. I, however, would acknowledge that it is indeed sibling rivalry which is totally normal behavior.

Yes, it's true. At this point though, I still think Venus has the upper hand in her game. After Serena won the first slam many put her game ahead of Venus', but Venus proved them wrong. Venus has been improving her game and I don't think she's finished (scary), whereas Serena has not. This could change, but it will take a lot of courage and hard work from Serena.

Yes... let Serena motivate Venus, and let Venus motivate Serena. Let them motivate each other, right into the finals of each and every slam, along with all the rest of the big tourneys.

I guess they each have to feel the thrill of being ranked #1 at some point , and then hopefully they will get on to what really matters... how many slams you end your career with. Lindsay has expressed that she doesn't care about being #1 anymore. She knows what time it is... time to win the slams.

I want their respective main goals to be.. SLAM WINNING. Sure... I'd like them to realize their dream or whatever, of being ranked 1, if that's what they so desire. Me?? I want them to WIN the damn slams. I want them to continue to develop their games, and be slam winning machines.

I also agree that Serena's game is NOT at the level of Venus' game. Serena was able to put together a great run in '99, but, it's been Venus who has kept on runnin'! They both have the room for improvement, that's for sure.
