Aww that's too bad! I think she needs to rest every 2-3 weeks between tournaments. Really no need to play every week, unless it is a Grand Slam. Her body can't take too much playing. I hope she rests up and will take care of herself over the next few weeks.

I know Roddick had a similar injury, but his did not seem that bad. But who knows. Hopefully she'll be ok.

I will be happy to give you the 800 number and speak with the media center. They said she was doing her press conference and that she retired with a "hamstring injury".

Maybe she made a bad lunge for a ball. It's happens, freak accidents. Just hope she can be okay for the Fed Cup tie or at least for Rome and Berlin.

Groin Injury.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Serena Williams retired from her match at the Family Circle Cup against Chan Yung-Jan on Tuesday with a groin pull.

Chan, of Chinese Taipei, was up 5-3 in the first set when Williams withdrew, apologizing to the crowd before she left stadium court.

Williams, the third seed, said she strained the muscle in Monday's practice and a trainer said it didn't seem like it would affect her play in future tournaments.

"But it could potentially get worse if I don't take care of it," Williams added.

Williams, who played Tuesday with her right thigh wrapped, said she will treat her injury with ice and massage.

"I've been playing a lot on the clay and, like I said, I was just sliding a lot and I think I just slid too far," she said.

Williams withdrawing/retiring from non-slam event with "injury"--what else is new?
