Twitter reminded me that yesterday (March 17) was the 22 year anniversary of this! Has any player had such a hostile crowd before or since? I think of snowflakes like Novaxx and Medvedev who come unglued when a crowd doesn't root for them enough. Imagine them having to face this at 19! And this final really exposed what a croc Fiona's so called niceness was. She didn't speak out about this at all and how disgraceful it was. At least Ellison had to grovel somewhat to get Serena back. I like that her heart was never into the event when she returned.

She was so sweet and composed during the trophy presentation too despite everything they threw at her

Ya'll gonna drag me, but I feel a lot of people are way too hard on Kim for this. She was just 18 years old. I know damn well my 18 year old self wouldn't have done or said shit if it was me. Now if she's still being shady about it to this day (which she probably is) then by all means drag her for that.

I gagged when she pulled out in the 2015 SF the same way Venus did though. That must've been intentional lmao.

Lmao I think it was intentional too, especially since she won Miami the week after.

I didn't need her to esvicerate crowd but it would have been nice to at least say it was wrong. She was the one that choose to craft the little ms sunshine peronsa so why not really follow through with it? But then the commentators and press were no better and always framed it as Serena and Venus' fault. So it's not like they frame it to her that way.

That withdrawl was most certainly calculated and a test.

Unfortunately, back in the early years Venus and Serena did not have any allies on the tour. I don’t think it’s shocking that Clijsters didn’t speak up. She likely wanted to beat a Williams sister at any cost and hoped the crowd would break Serena. Little did she know, Serena would use that moment to dominate women’s tennis the follow year.

as we’ve discussed, (or maybe in the venus subforum), kim is the dumb type of nice and is the last person i would expect to advocate for anything

wrt IW, it is exciting to see even some semblance of a rivalry start to build with entertaining gamestyles. my favorite is rybakina bc of her immaculate technique and all court game, the spirit of Lindsay has finally been inherited after imposters like hantuchova, pavs

I feel bad for iga getting skulldragged by these elite ballbashers cuz she seems like a sensitive soul and frankly seems to have a hard time with losing, but the schaudenfreude I get is from her annoying fans getting stfu

Also, happy to see a first hardcourt meeting between Alcaraz and Medvedev - it should be fireworks. IW being blessed with two fantastic finals on paper. 🍿
I'm gonna need Carlos to win. He is really what the men's game has needed and I would love to see him keep Rafa and Novaxx trapped at #22. I don't think he's good enough on grass to stop Novaxx at Wimbledon though.

@Potato I really felt last year that the women's game would start to level off from the unpredictable chaos of the past few years. There is no clear dominant force but there are different playstyles and personalities at the top now and I think that's healthy. I'm torn on who to root for tomorrow. I enjoy both Sabalenka and Rybakina. But Sabs has an undercurrent of crazy I find endearing and I think she stans Serena.

Oracene made history with her comments about Clijsters! She even had an entire TF thread about it. I have ALWAYS wanted to know what went down with Clijsters and the sisters. Between Oracene's comments and that super awkward pic of Venus and Clijsters completely icing each other at some event it must have been bad. Clijsters was bffs with Capriati so I always side-eyed her intentions.

Did you peep that eye of hers? It gives you a Medusah scare and turns you into solid stone. :hysteric: :sobbing:

I have always loathed Clijsters. There is something gutter about her. She was dating Hewitt, friends with Capriati. I mean, at some point it must mean something. And who the hell retires to be pregnant and barefoot for a bum Z list unknown allegedly BBaller? You know something ain't right with her. Must be the dick (the streets say Hewitt was packing).

yes, most important thing rn is that we have a group of girls that can only stop each other but can be counted on to get to win the matches they are supposed to. hopefully the rivalries will build and this will create compelling narratives for the tour outside of stereotypical “marketability” like the flopucanus of the tour.

and don’t forget oracene’s fav player on tour - remember this before u come for my fav!!!

I still can’t accept that Serena got dabbed on by a pregnant woman in her last IW F. I’m gonna think of that on every IW F day for the rest of my life.

And she let that ball drop in in her last RG F. Lost her last Wimbledon F in 56 minutes. Lost her last MAGA Open F on a ROS winner. Dear God.
You hoes have such random thoughts. Serena is prolly thinking about her next comestic procedure and Drake's dick. Let it gooooo.

She stormed back from a double break down WITH AMAZING SHOTS to have a chance to hold for 5-5 in and lost promptly, just like she got broken from 40-15 in the final game of the AO final.

And then went to Miami not caring at all, struggled with McHale, and got put out of her misery by Kuznetsova.

At this point, I'm just gonna start pretending Serena retired after AO 2017 and never came back. She gave us some cute matches and completed the career slam against Mel, but that's about it lmao.

Last match being winning #23 while pregnant and paying dust to Court's fake record? Let me live in my delusional happiness.

I got some scandalous tea… Retired gay NBA player, Jason Collins (@jasoncollins_98) follows @the_bulging instagram page dedicated to ATP player bulges/butts.

I find this so hilarious considering he’s a celebrity and former professional athlete. I can imagine all the scoping he was doing in the locker rooms when he was an active player. 👀👀😂😂

We got some pretty iconic outfits though — RG 2018, USO - 2018, AO - 2021.
