Third career title for Katya! :worship: :awww: I am so happy for her! She really seems to have picked her game up over the course of the week. That first set was some really good stuff from both players and Katya was surprisingly clutch in the tight moments even saving a SP.

Tough loss for Jelena though. Her intensity dropped after the first set and she had to take a MTO for her foot as well. Hopefully she will be fine for Tallinn.

Congrats Drova :cheer:
The first set was a break fest, but Katya played well today, and was shockingly clutch in the TB, hitting some great shots towards the end. Sadly Ostapenko got injured in the second set, but otherwise, she deserves this win! She clearly likes this matchup, now a 5-2 H2H for her. Solid week overall from her :) Similar scoreline to her previous title at Rosmalen this year.

Poor Penko  Linette->Raducanu->Ostapenko all got injured - a curse struck this tournament :scared:

Funny moment today:

I like both players very much but have to be honest, this is not what top-20 tennis should look like, congrats to Drova, Penko should rest up now instead of going to Estonia.

First time in her career Alexandrova wins more than 1 WTA title in a season.

Entertaining 1st set but then Ostapenko's injury sort of ended the match.

Ostapenko was up 5-3 in the first set and serving for the set, but couldn't do it, and Alexandrova dominated from that point forward. Great performance from her.

Hopefully Jelena's foot isn't hurting too bad. She took the MTO down 0-3 in the second set and only won one point in the remaining three games.

It was a really high quality first set after Drova stopped netting every other ball in the first game or two - Penko had all the chances to win it along the way but Alexandrova played some inspired tennis when down in the score. And of course there were a few Penko oddities along the way.

Second set started really tight, but Alexandrova (and Hawkeye) got the better of Penko in the first two games. Towards the end of the third game, Penko started limping and then was yelping during the MTO. If I saw it right, it was around the metatarsal bones area of the right foot but could be completely wrong.

After that it was quickly playing out the remaining games, might as well have retired but probably did not want to in front of the huge supportive crowd.

They don't like each other, I think the only reason she didn't retire was because Latvia is a strong country against Russia and the war. They didn't want to admit defeat or give the Russians propaganda to show "look how strong we are, the Latvian player conceded to the superior Russian!!!"

Ostapenko put her country over her personal well-being, which deserves respect (even though I disagree with bringing politics onto the court).

Disappointing for Penko to get an injury , hope it isn't bad.
Drova :worship:, great first set, high level bashing by both.
Fantastic to get another title this year.
At her best she's a very difficult opponent.
Nice speech from her, loves Korean food.

Usually Alexandrova is yelling at her dad. She could use a coach
2 Russian titles, 3rd time since Wimbledon

Alexandrova :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I was surprised at how many people predicted Ostapenko to win seeing their H2H and how badly Jelena had been playing this week.

4-1 now (5-2 with the ITF matches) :worship::oh:

I believe Katya will FINALLY debut in the top20 after the 2021 Indian Wells drop in a couple of weeks (at the expense of Kvitova and Ostapenko). Just for one week though, as her F points from Moscow will drop the week after.
