Womens Preview

With the late withdrawl of Shahar Peer, this tournament does not have the strongest field with the exception of Lindsay Davenport. This looks to be an easy title for Davenport but who knows? We've got a couple of new-comers and they could cause a stir-up.

But obviously there can only be one winner here and here's what I think:

(4) Paola Suarez (ARG) VS. Viktoriya Kutuzova (CRO)

Suarez has just come off her first win on the tour, a double bagle over Alicia Molik, which could give her a lot of confidence. It shouldn't be a suprise if she wins, but Viktoriya has not yet won a match and may be angry. She cause Paola some trouble.

This is a really great win for Paola. In the first set, she was just not there. Viktoriya's artful storkes were just fooling her. In the second, down 0-4, it appeared Paola would be eliminated. But she came back and took the set. The third set was pretty routine, with Paola getting the break early and holding all the way through. Congrats Paola!​

Alicia gave it all she had, but just couldn't do anymore. She had the flu, and actually tried to start the second set. But serving at 0-30 in the second set, she threw up on court and passed out. She was forced to retire. Poor Alicia Nice job Elena! ​
