Virginia Wade [21] def. [25] Lisa Raymond 6-0,7-5

GBR II leads USA II 1-0

Pretty good job by Virginia Wade, following in the footsteps of Durie and Barker. Lisa couldn't keep the Americans going.

Flavia Pennetta [16] def. [53] Emma Murphy 0-6,7-6(3),6-0

ITA leads IRL 1-0

A close match in the second set. Neither team has been to this stage before and both players were a little nervous playing good and playing horrible.

Maja Matevzic def. [16] Nadia Petrova 7-5,6-0

SLO leads RUS II 1-0

Maja takes down Nadia Petrova who played great in her first round tie. Maja continues her great play here at Wimbledon, she is 3-0.

Kelly Liggan [12] def. [53] Karin Knapp 6-0,0-6,6-0

ITA and IRL 1-1

Crazy match, Kelly was just more dominant in two sets so she won. Karin blew Kelly off the court in the second set, but was way too tired to do anything in the third set. Much needed win for Ireland.

Brenda Schultz-McCarthy [25] def. [38] Nikola Hofmanova 7-6(4),4-6,7-5

NED leads AUT 1-0

A very tight match, high quality throughout. Brenda just sneaked away with it in the third getting a crucial break at 5-5.

Maria Sharapova [53] def. Katarina Srebotnik 3-6,6-3,7-6(5)

SLO and RUS II 1-1

Maria levels the tie with Slovenia. Maria has been quite successful for RUS II even though she doesn't excell on grass. Baring any upsets in the final two rubbers a lot of this match lies upon the doubles now.

Jennifer Capriati [9] def. [1] Sue Barker 6-4,6-4

USA II and GBR II 1-1

A straight set victory over the world number one. Jennifer played some great tennis to level this tie at 1-1 and like the Slovenia - Russia tie, this is likely to fall on the doubles.

Michaella Krajicek [25] def. [25] Tamira Paszek 6-7(0),7-6(7)*,7-6(2)

A very close match, Tamira had a couple match points in the second set and couldn't take them and as a results the Netherlands goes up 2-0.

Is Flavia Pennetta's favourite surface clay?

Is Capriati a grasscourt or just a pusher? One of the two, I presume:)...hopefully the former and a good player rather than boring! I really hope USA aren't pushing; I would be annoyed.

Croft/Durie def. Craybas/Rubin 1-6,7-5,6-3

GBR II leads USA II 2-1

Annabel and Jo played a smart game against the Americans. They got out to a quick lead but the Brits came back slowly and took it in three sets to give them the very important doubles rubber.

Hofmanova/Meusburger def. Tamaela/Thyssen 7-6(1),7-6(8)*

NED leads AUT 2-1

Austria avoids being the first team out with a tight doubles match. Austria and the Netherlands have both received their share of luck going into the fourth rubber now.

Chieppa/Pennetta def. Dillon/Mall 6-4,6-4

ITA leads IRL 2-1

Italy had control throughout the match, it was close but Chieppa/Pennetta had the power. The Irish duo haven't found a way to win the doubles rubber yet.

Lisa Raymond [25] def. [1] Sue Barker 6-0,6-2

USA II and GBR II 2-2

Horrible showing for the world #1 on centre court. Lisa loves playing on grass. Sue playing here might be a detriment to her ranking next week, but I'm sure the homecrowd enjoyed her playing.

Nikola Hofmanova [38] def. [25] Michaella Krajicek 6-7(4),6-4,7-5

NED and AUT 2-2

What a great match, Michaella almost took out a talented grasscourter. Nikola held on and saved Austria from defeat again.
