SLO leads JPN 1-0

Matevzic and Ai were neck and neck in the beginning of the match. Maja just barely pulled through in the tiebreak getting a mini-break right at the end. Ai lost her spirit after that and got blown away by Maja. Good match between two grass courters.​

Not a great sign for the Japanese, Katarina was able to offset Ayumi's grass court skills with excellent tactics. Great play from Katarina.​

SLO leads JPN 2-1

Slovenia came real close to winning the tie here, but the Japanese were able to pull through. They have split 1-1 in rubbers with equal points. The last one is up next Japan needs to win it.​

A great match between these two excellent grasscourters. Ayumi kept Japan's hopes alive after winning the first, but Slovenia really wanted the win and Maja just never gave up and fought through and amazing rubber to put Slovenia in the next round.​

Ai Sugiyama def. Katarina Srebotnik 6-0,0-6,6-3

Sugiyama just used her superior grasscourting to be Katarina. Srebotnik wasn't able to pull the upset off again, Japan plays well and I expected them to win and go further, hopefully they'll get a better draw next time.​
