GBR II leads USA I 1-0

Sue stormed through the first set without opposition. In the second set, Ashley was able to get ahead every once in awhile, but Sue always fought back. the United States is down early and struggling, Ashley really needs to win her clay matches.

Maria Kirilenko def. Martina Muller 6-0,7-6(1)

RUS I leads GER 1-0

Maria was solid up until 6-0,3-0, then Martina got into the match and it was much more even. Martina had her chance to serve out the second set at 5-4, but oouldn't do it. And then after that Maria proved too tough in the tiebreak. Maria was the favorite in this match, but Martina has shown she can be a claycourter so really well done by Kirilenko.

Anastasia Pivovarova def. Angelika Roesch 6-0,0-6,7-6(2)

RUS I leads GER 2-0

Pivovarova is 5-0 in singles rubbers, she is just a solid player. Roesch is a great claycourter too, and this match did not highlight their abilities. Very off and on, Angelika really choked in the end blowing 3-0,4-1 and 5-3 before losing in the tiebreak. Russia is almost in the final. Kerber/Kloesel are good in doubles but so are Dementieva/Poutchkova.

Jo Durie def. Serena Williams 6-3,2-6,6-3

GBR II leads USA I 2-0

An excellent match to finish play for now. Jo and Serena played great throughout the match, one player was always clearly winning but nevertheless both played solid tennis. Serena has shown good form for a non-claycourter, she was able to get this win, but proved she'll be tough on her better surface.

GBR II def. USA I

Great Britain advances to the Finals!!! The British girls played much more consistantly than the Americans, the fell behind a little in the third but some great play towards the end of the match pulled them through. It's up to Ashley and Serena now to avoid the blowout.

Anastasia saves Russia again. Pivovarova is awesome in singles, Russia was able to use their claycourt skills to pull through to the final. All the singles players are claycourters and both doubles teams have a 2-1 record. Should be a great final!!

An awesome start to the final tie. Maria and Sue were neck and neck the whole time. It was really close but neither player was unlucky. Maria just played ever-so-slightly better today and won the match in the end. Sue's perfect record is lost.
