But who was she provoking?
Dynamo Moscow fans. :oh: :oh: :oh:
I don't think they were delighted.

Let's not exaggerate. In this situation, I will defend Anastasia. It's just love for club colors.
Potapova seems to be very unhappy with the way things are going. It seems she was not very collaborative with Svitolina when they played, then she was in that match with the drama of the Ukrainian flag and now this. So that's already 3 events, while other Russian players seem to be going on without problems.

I'm not gonna say she's pro Putin, but this feels like she's unhappy that people are saying bad things about her country and trying to be a rebel. Almost like a childish thing, when an adult tell a kid not to swear and she wants to swear.

It's a dumb move. It might be her fav club but we're far from seeing this as a normal thing in the current times. Many people won't care about this but some definitely will which could lead to a scandal.

I honestly don't see it as a provocation because I don't see the point in doing it right now but not very bright from her. Maybe trying to copy Azarenka and her PSG thing but girl it's not the time.
Why should should she give a flying fuck what deranged people will make out of innocuous gestures?

Am I missing something here that the Polish nationalists and the usual unhinged, rabid Russophobes are about to reveal? Is Spartak Moscow - the most supported football club in Russia (also known for its production line of Russian tennis players like Kafelnikov, Safin, Dementieva, Kournikova and even Rybakina) - a Kremlin-run club or something? What else is "stupid" for her to do? Speak Russian? Visit Russia? Wear anything with Cyrillic on it? Patronize a Russian company? Answer a Russian name?
You don't need to be a Polish nationalist to hate Russia. When you live in those parts, all you need is a semi-decent memory.

The funny thing is, USA is like the last country that would recognize football (soccer) club jerseys. There was no uprorar because Americans simply don't know the names of soccer clubs around the world with maybe the exception of 5-6 from Premier League, Real Madrid and Barcelona (plus maybe PSG since they took the sheiks money to become globally-relevant again) :lol2:

Your "hating Russia" is irrelevant to what I asked about those foaming in the mouth in this thread in their usual deranged way. Is Spartak Moscow some Kremlin-owned club? Since a Muscovite should apparently be banned for expressing support for a popular private club in Moscow with extensive tennis ties, what other Russian cultural expressions should she be banned for?

The Spartak shirt has the name of the club owner Lukoil in big letters on the front.

Lukoil is the second largest russian company after Gazprom and is on many western sanctions lists.

Obviously, Nike ended their sponsoring deal with Spartak after the invasion.

Well, Spartak was bought last year by a state-owned company. So I would say yes, it is a state-owned club.

Come on Sheriff, I believe you're smarter than that. I know people can be annoying calling for those nonsensical bans, but it doesn't mean you have to sugarcoat everything Russians do.

Wearing a Spartak Moscow shirt is basically the best one can do to support Russia without actually doing it. Just because it is allowed for her to wear that Jersey, it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

If you have paid attention to Sheriff's Russia related posts, you will know you can't expect much more from that poster.

About as smart as wearing a West Ham shirt in the Isle of Dogs district

Yes you are missing something. Spartak Moscow is completely owned by a Russian oil company. It's by the way also the club of Quincy Promes, a guy who stabbed his cousin with a knife in an attempt of murder, then fled the Netherlands for Russia since Spartak Moscow offered him a contract. He doesn't dare to get back to the Netherlands since he will probably get prison time but Spartak and the Russian government are trying to get him a Russian passport. Great club indeed.
