Wow!! What a day!! First of all I will say that it was a dream come true for me to go to this Tournament. It was the Tournament that actually got me into tennis in the first place. I remember seeing it on TV and just falling in love with the sport and asking my Mom for a tennis racket the next day. They always played the song "Carolina in my mind" during the Tournament on tv and it was so moving.
Anyway so today I went to the Tournament for the first time and loved it.
The park is beautiful, surrounded by beautiful parks and Southern Swamps. Center Court was gorgeous. I even saw an alligator in a swamp near to the practice courts:eek: Lots of the players saw too and were going over there to look often:lol:
So I got there early before the matches started and found the practice courts.
The first players I saw were Kutuzova, Dushevina and Sucha! Vera is so cute, it's unbelievable!! Her hair is like totally blonde and long and she's just so darn cute  Then I went over and watched Cibulkova vs. Shvedova on the Main Court!! To my surprise Cibulkova destroyed her! Shvedova did not adjust to the hard conditions(cold and windy, players were playing with their warmups on) and Cibulokova trashed her. Cibulkova is drop dead gorgeous!!!:drool:She is so sexy!!!
Shortly after I saw Jamea Jackson walk by and was surprised because she wasn't in the tournament, so I asked if she was playing and said no, that she was still a little injured, and she'd be back soon. She's so sweet!! She then went and practiced with Asha Rolle!!
Then I headed over to watch Fedak and Olaru. This match took forever. Everygame was so long. Fedak is kind of a pusher and Olaru was being quite agressive. Fedak was in a full warm up suit the match and some how won in a third set TB but maybe wouldn't have if Olaru didn't make errors on key points.
One of the highlights for me today was Nina Pantic. I was so happy when I saw she got a WC, because I had never seen her before. She actually used to live in the same City(Victoria) as me and I had been in the same Tournaments before. Anyway she is so cute. Very petite, she looks way younger than 17, like maybe 14. She was practicing beside her opponent Kostanic and just looked so happy to be out there but also scared, she was talking to her mom after like she knew she would get killed but was just happy to have the experience. As it turns out she did get killed but she showed signs of promise. Afterwards I went to her and asked for a picture and she was so shocked and I told her I was from Victoria and she was like ok, then she made fun of my camera:lol:
Then I watched Rodionova vs. Pelletier(who I was also elated about being there). Rodionova played the perfect first set, winner after winner. Mara was helpless. Then the second set started and Marie-Eve started pushing and it was working and Rodionova started getting frustrated and questioning calls and being herself:lol: Although I must admit she was well behaved in general and was very nice off the court. She talked to me for a bit and was very sweet! Anyway Mara played really well and actually had 2 set points but couldn't get them. Rodionova won 6-0,7-5. Afterwards both players signed autographs for like 10 minutes. Mara was very happy and gracious despite the lost. One more thing about Rodionova is that she was hitting with Marta Marerro:eek: and Marrero was there like totally cheering her on and stuff. I was quite surprised.
Anyway, I think I'm writing too much:lol: but that's some of my day, I met and saw many many players. I think my faves today were Pantic, Pelletier, Oprandi(very very nice and funny), Czink, the Chinese girls, and Flavia Pennetta who was so sweet and kind and polite, and cute;)
Well I'll be back tomorrow. And maybe later if I remember so more key stories from today!!!

I understood that you didn't see Obziler's win.
Do you intend to see her in the second round?

More stories from Day 1:
First of all yes I did see the Sprem vs. Mattek match and it was a good one. The first set was great tennis with great shots. With Sprem it's just an all out assault on the ball. Sometimes she literally hits it as hard as she can, sometimes the crowd just gasped. Often it would miss but today she played really well. You definately could see why she was Top 20. They were both wearing flashy outfits too.
Another player that bashes the ball as hard as she can was Lepchenko, she played really well even after Henke took like a 15 minute break after first set and went up 2-0.
After Kudryatseva lost to Kremer she went off by herself and sat by this little swamp(where the crocodile was) and cried her eyes out for like 15 minutes.
Also I had dinner right next to Vania King at Outback which was kinda cool! She was dressed very cool and ate steak.
I also had grits for the first time in my life for breakfast:lol:

hey! i recently was on daniel island and i know about this little alligator! he lives in that little swampy thing to the left of the building! there was a local tournament up there and my coach took these two little boys up there, about 11 and 12. the little 11 year old started taunting the alligator and it attacked him! and then it let go after he started hitting it with his tennis racquet. he escaped with only a few bruises and cuts. in a cruel way, it was funny! he brags about it now! he tells this story about this massive alligator that latched onto his leg and tried to drag him in the swamp! it's pretty funny!

That's hilarious!!! He's such a cute little guy, definately not big enough to drag somebody into the water. So many players and coaches just loved watching it. I sweat Dushevina's coach was there for 2 hours looking at it.
Then some other coaches thought it would be funny to throw stuff at it:rolleyes:
