Hi,

I just read on Eurosport that Samprass has a new coach. In the article something about his Oz Open quarterfinal was mentioned that surprised me. This what they wrote:
Sampras wept on court during his quarter-final win over Jim Courier at the Australian Open in 1995 after being told of Tim Gullikson's illness.
Courier offered to continue the match the following day. The pair played on and Sampras won a thriller in five sets.

Does somebody know more about it? Can you tell me the story. It sounds so sad

During the tournament it was discovered that Tim Gullikson has braincancer and while Sampras was playing somebody in the crowd screamed Do it for Tim Pete and then he started crying because he was so upset but he got himself together afterwards and won the match.

I've seen it again a couple of months ago.
Sampras was crying and each time he wanted to toss the ball, he couldn't continu. It took him a couple of minutes to get himself together, tossed up while still having the tears in his eyes and hit ... an ace. He did that a couple of times in one game, won the game, sat down on his chair and cried with his head in his towel untill he had to play again.
I'm absolutely not a fan of Sampras, but when I saw that I was really touched.

well, seriously, I don't know why so many people especially in the old WTA message board hate Sampras, he is such a great champion, just let his racket do the talking and is a person who is loveable and care about others, this incident again shows Sampras is a kind and loyal person.

Were you also referring to me? I don't HATE him, I said I'm absolutly not a fan. That's because I'm a big big big Agassi fan, and as you will know, Pete was his biggest rival. So I'm just not going to root for him. BTW, I think his nickname "Boring Pete" is not stolen; he's friendly and all, but, man, he really is boring almost all the time, even his game, in MY opinion, ace...ace...quick volley...ace...I just love the baseliners you know.
But again I don't hate him, I don't hate any tennisplayer (maybe Grosjean a little ). His not my idol, that's all.
But hey, the thread wasn't about who liked him or not, huh? I repeat once again that I was very touched by the way he could continu while crying and being unhappy.
