Long match, over 2 hours. First set alone was 1 hr 13. There were a fair few breaks of serve and momentum changes throughout. Yafan served for the first set, and also had a 3-1 lead in the second, so she might consider this as one that got away.

That's now 7 defeats in a row for Yafan, and while this has been mentioned before, the longer it goes on, the more crazier it becomes - Yafan had 3 successive MPs against Konta in their Rabat R1 match, but after failing to convert any of them, she has now lost 12 sets in a row, whereas Jo went on to reach that final, the final of Rome and then the semi final in Paris. Yafan was ranked 56 then back then in April and Jo was 47 and neither were considered good on clay, but talk about a contrasting 6 or 7 weeks for them both since.

She was off to such a good start of the year. Losing to AVU on grass is no shame but it's more that she's continued to blow these leads and opportunities. Mental work to do.
