Now that our stars - Anna, Elena D., Nastya, Nadja, Lina K. are all pros. we have no problem getting information about them. I wanted to create this thread to collect information about times when the information about them was limited. Specifically,
junior years, all kind of links - articles about them, early pictures, junior results, everything that would help us know more about them. Anything that you know or have in printed version and not lazy to retype or rescan and post. Ongoing results of Russian Juniors and little known players in Satellites etc. Or maybe we can create a separate threads about some parts. I'd like us to consider a creation of an ongoing open source of information about Russian tennis, its history. Source that people could freely use for their websites about Russian tennis. To start collecting detailed information about. I know that many people do some things like that alone, but if will try to do it together and combine our efforts, we can create a true and fullest encyclopedy of Russian tennis. Just an idea.

It is not that we all should start run Web searches right now, for starter lets just discuss this idea if anyone is interested, and if someone is interested, maybe we could decide how to do it better and we could try to start this little project. The part of that I would really like is that there would be a lot of people contributing to this, basically anyone who wants, and with not much of effort coming from every single person we can still create an unparalleled source of information.

PDF is not a problem, TBE, if it is not very complex, it can be parsed. But I am not sure what would be the right format to store. I will try to outline some ideas later today..

Nina, meaning Safina doesn't play and Kournikova does. Right?

What about Safina? She did play both Kremlin Cup and Surgut.

OK, no more questions. But I could speculate a bit. Amongst women, WCs were awarded to Safina, Zvonareva, Bastrikova and Kuznetsova - they are the best prospects among juniors, I can't think of any names who'd be a better choice. I'm kinda surprised not to see Alina there, but I think she could have entered qualies directly.

But the men's quali draw does look suspicious - three russian quali WCs got total of 2 games per 6 sets they played against little known opponents, with two of them being double-bageled. It certainly says that those three players don't seem to be of a right level for $1M ATP tournament. The fourth WC was given to Zimbabwean player with no achievements in singles at all, which is also quite difficult to explain. Normally, the WC would be given to a foreign player in exchange for similar WC given to our player in a tournament played in that country. But there are no torunaments in Zimbabwe. So, I'd say that all four men's WCs look very suspicious, especially three Russian WCs, because Ulyett at least won a match.

The Girls got their WC on merit I know for sure

Dinara , Vera , Svetlana and Anna are the best youngsters out there

plus Vera was runner up to Fokina in National Champs
Dinara and Anna were SF's so deserved them
Svetlana has done brill on junior tour and was #2 on juniors .

Mens did look a bit odd

Dmitry Dudko ????? he got double bagled

Peter Kolesnikov won 2 games

Suprised that Nastya's boyfriend didn't even make qualies draw ( Atrem Derapasko)

he would have been in on merit ( maybe injured)

WC are given to doubles players who don't have a high singles rank.
Most events you see a doubles specialist in draw.

Eggy, it is pretty obvious now.

Dudko, double-bageled. Why him? He is #1075 in Russian classification, not even ATP. And he is 20 yo.

Kolesnikov, won 2 games. #765 in Russian lists. 22 yo.

Who the hell are them, young talents? I think it is new Russians, who got here by that old concept (paraphrased):

- Can you play tennis?

- I don't know. I never tried.

Another name, Berkovich, also double-bageled, not classified even in Russian lists.
And where the heck are Derepasko? Ivanov-Smolenski? Moukhometshin? Gabashvili?

Amazing..

the cat, we are discussing the wildcards allocation at Kremlin Cup, that they could have probably allocated them with a little bit better use than they actually did.

Just checked qualifying WCs for S-Petersburg Open, I can't say that it is too much different from Kremlin Cup..

ys ..... most ATP qualifiers are obscure players that no one has heard of.

I'm sure if I was involved more into ATP like am i on WTA side i'd know who they are and age/ranks etc

WTA qualies are similar as well but I know 99.99% of players so i'm familiar with names

I doubt it, Eggy.. Even if you knew ATP as well as WTA, I don't think you'd be able to say anything about those qualifying WCs players. Neither of them has ATP rankings. Neither of them is even Top 50 Russian player ( do you know nuch about all of Top 50 Russian WTA? I doubt it ). Neither of them is younger than 19, so they hardly can be considered hot prospects. So, who the hell they are? How did they get it?
