There are rumours in ruling party that retired WTA top player may become the ministry of sports in Polish right wing government. They say it would be a female professional athlete champion. Some of them already condemned and Aga didn't that make her kinda probable candidate

As her supporter throuhhtout her career I would just shit my pants srsly. I am an LGBT person. The government is ultra homophobic and local governments already make LGBT free zones. Agnieszka as the face of the government would be total humiliation for tennis. Hope it doesnt happen.

PS. Another rumoured candidate is openly homophobic Olympian Zofia Noceti-Klepacka.

It's never been a secret that her parents belong to an extreme right wing Catholic organization. It was talked about when she started and then the subject disappeared. This is not a suprise at all.

Go Aga ! :rocker2:

But I wish she would come back to play doubles on WTA Tour ...

PS: If this is fake news, then the mods should immediately delete this Thread.

Not true.

One disgraceful newspaper published some stickers and some equally disgraceful people were independently sticking them on random places. I live in Norway now and I saw anti-Islamic stickers in Norwegian all over the place, doesn't mean Norway is an anti-Islamic state.

The situation is far from perfect the way it is, but no need to lie to make it look even worse.

Klepacka looks like a much more probable option, she's the warrior of the government while Aga has cut her ties from any political party a long time ago. (On the other hand, the previous minister of sport seemed like a decent guy who didn't get involved in any petty political shit and eventually was selected as WADA leader, so maybe Aga would reconsider)

I'll save my judgment until this is actually confirmed. I recommend you all to do the same.

Why 'LGBT-free zones' are on the rise in Poland

Activists in Poland say so-called LGBT-free zones across the predominantly Catholic country point to efforts by the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party to stoke anti-LGBT sentiment ahead of a parliamentary election this fall.

Local media reports suggest that across Poland, more than two dozen cities and towns — some led by PiS members — have declared their regions LGBT-free zones in recent months. The majority are situated in the historically conservative southeastern part of the country.

While the declarations are not enforceable, activists say they signal a targeted effort to exclude LGBT residents.

"It's a statement saying that a specific kind of people is not welcome there," said Ola Kaczorek, co-president of the Warsaw-based Love Does Not Exclude Association.

The number of supposedly LGBT-free regions has grown since Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski signed a declaration in February supporting sexual and gender diverse communities in that city, Kaczorek said.

Officials of the nationalist PiS party, which won a majority in 2015 running on an anti-immigration platform, have been vocal in their opposition to LGBT rights. Activists say that with migration to Poland slowing significantly since 2015, the party is looking for a new group to target.

At a rally ahead of European Parliament elections in May, PiS president Jaroslaw Kacynski told a crowd that "LGBT ideology" was a "threat" to Polish society.

"They are not saying LGBT+ people are a threat, but they're saying that LGBT+ ideology is a threat," said Kaczorek. "Then people who are taking part [in pride marches] are not seen as humans, but as a part of some kind of ideology … [and] that is terrifying for some people."

Still Aga may opt to not join the government so who knows? I wanted to post this to show that people aren't just making ish up.

Re: Rumours: Agnieszka Radwańska to become the ministra of sport in Polish right-wing

This is a legitimate question for my own curiosity.

If someone like Serena were to retire and become ministry of sports under Donald Trump, I wouldn't immediately assume that there's that big a connection in their political affiliations. Is the ministry of sports different on other places. Am I being naive? Sure, Trump would prefer someone who feels the same way as him, but if someone as accomplished as Serena wanted the job, even he may cave and give up on that one.

Are things different in Poland?

People should not only condemn Poland.

Look at Chechenia and Arab countries, how they treat homosexuals there.
A lot worse. A LOT ...

Google Ramzan Kadyrov (Head of the Chechen Republic).
He is one of the most evil and disgusting people on this world :help:
Trump is a saint compared to him.

If Serena gets to the final of an ITF and loses is an embarrassment. If some club players reaches the Semi finals is a big achievement. Expectations are different. Poland is a country from the European Union, people expect them to be civilised.

The United States is supposedly a first world country.

That was exactly the point I was trying to make. Not everyone who works in government in the United States supports the president. Ostensibly the minister of sports would be helping kids or trying to make a difference in sports/olympics/funding no matter who the president is.

I know you post in good faith. I am Polish, bisexual, have several lesbian friends, and on top of that I'm married to a foreigner. You can live, work freely wherever you want and be with whomever of whatever race you want. You can change gender and undergo surgery. We have transgenders and homosexuals in our parliament.

You can legally do all these things in Eastern Poland villages as well.

What you can't do is you can't marry a person of the same gender and you can't adopt children. So yes, this is bad enough.

Also, some vocal individuals (politicians included) are very homophobic (not to the level of putting people to jail, but to ban parades, teach children at schools that homosexuality is a sin, shit like that).

These are facts for all the concerned foreigners. I hope I helped :).

This is not confirmed at all. Politicians from ruling party are denying it.

I live in small town in Eastern Poland, near the Belarusian border. Everyone here pretends that lgbt people don't exist, treats every people like he/she was heterosexual without knowing him/her. People knowledge about lgbt people comes from news about pride parades, gay porno and priests, so they know barely anything about them.

Personally I know only one gay person here who is open about it. Others are hiding their private life here, live alone or gone to big city in Western Poland/ Warsaw/Western Europe.

Yeah, it's possible to not hide and live quite comfortably, but you need to have big guts and it's rather reserved to upper class, big cities and it's easier if you're a woman.

But it will never be comfortable live with no rights to marriage, adoption to create a family and with such a homophobic society.

LGBT free zones are meant to be directed in LGBT propaganda which doesn't exist. In reality it's the messege to all lgbt people that they are not allowed to live openly and to scare them even more.
