Welcome Senior Members To The J & S Cup, Warsaw, Poland (Tier II)

Welcome senior members to Warsaw, Poland for one of the most prestigious Tier II clay events in the world. The J & S Cup. We have left the green clay of the United States for the demanding red clay of Europe.

In her debut Amelie Mauresmo captured the Bausch and Lomb Championships title, while Anastaysia Myskina picked up her second consecutive Tier I title for the year in Charleston. Will these two be a factor as we move closer to Roland Garros or will the world no. 1 Martina Hingis finally breakthrough and capture this title after coming so close in Charleston.

And lets not forget about the other top players. The newly crowned world no. 2 Elena Dementieva and the world no. 3 Tatiana Golovin both made it to the semi-finals in Charleston, both loosing very tight matches. Shahar Peer and Serena Williams are always a threat.

Justine Henin of Belgium Is preaparing to make her RRTA Debut in Warsaw, April 30. "Its going to be very tough, I don't really kow what to expect but with the round robin format I will be guaranteed 3 matches at least" the belgian commented. Henin will be playing in the Indian Wells Doubles exhibitioon event this week, to gain some extra preparation before her singles debut in Warsaw. When asked about her debut match and her opponents henin commented, " It won't be easy, all the other girls are playing very well, especially Myskina. I will just have to go out and try to be 100% on each point, If I can do this I should be in with a chance... impossible is nothing"

Pierce To Return In Warsaw

Mary Pierce has confirmed she will play at the J&S Cup in Warsaw and begin her claycourt season. After a slight absence from the tour, she is hungrier than ever to get some match wins under her belt ahead of Roland Garros.

"I am ready to get onto the clay and get some matches ahead of Roland Garros, which is a really important tournament for me. I have been working very hard off the court, and I hope it will tell this claycourt season. I am just looking to get some matchplay and I hope to get out of the Round-Robin again before Roland Garros."

Pierce made a stunning debut earlier this year in Doha, where she won all of her Round Robin matches before losing to Patty Schnyder in the QF. She had a 2-1 Round Robin record at Indian Wells, but only just missed out on a Quarter-Final place. She had a poorer showing in Miami before and had to miss the start of the claycourt season due to personal reasons.

"I was really gutted not to get through at Indian Wells and just lost a bit of motivation. All I know is that I am back and fully ready for the clay!"

Before Warsaw, Mary will play a doubles exhibition in Indian Wells with Tamira Paszek.

"I'm looking forward to playing with Tamira. She is a great player and I think we should play well together. It will be good to be back at Indian Wells and have another shot at winning there."

Serena will begin the season on clay courts in Europe, during turnament in Warsaw!

" I am pleased very much that I will play in Poland, in the country of my coach David. These will be my first tournament in Europe, and I very much want to play a few good matches here. I hope that everything will be ok and Warsaw will become the first step for winning FO. I know that I am able to win Grand Slam and to confirm the fact that I am a very good competitor. During these competition I will be training around my friend Martina Hingis - no. 1 in the world. Real champions should stick together. Before this tournament I will act in The Pacific Life Open Doubles Exhibition and my partner will be Lucie Safarova which I lost in Charleston. I count on the good performance and the pleasant party.

MYSKINA ARRIVES IN POLAND

The Charleston's champion arrives in Poland here late yesterday. As soon as the practise court was open today, she went on to hit some balls with her new hitting partner whom she brought all the way from Russia with her.

According to her coach, Myskina went back to Moscow for a week while the other girls are having a great time at the United States playing for a doubles exhibition at Indian Wells. According to some relevant source, it is said that Myskina had to went back to Russia due to some health problems.

Myskina wasn't hitting the ball very clean today as she did at Charleston a fortnight ago. She is missing quite a number of easy shots as she practised with her partner.

"I'm still getting used to the court here. Its a different colour down there so its very different. I usually had to take a few more days to get used to a particular court. I hope I can manage it on time."

"I'm definitely happy with my achievement so far but there's so many new faces on the tour now and it'll be a great threat for me. Furthermore I took a week off and played no tennis so I really need to rush myself to get back on form."

World #1 Hingis is having a good time practising with kids

I feel so priviledge to be here, and especially to practising on the same court with so many future tennis players, I adore kids, although I am not ready to get married and have kids just yet, but possibility is always be there, you aren't going to play tennis and competing for the rest of your life, one day I would love to become a mother as well, therefore I can teach and train my kids to play tennis.

Poland is a beautiful city, with so many great sightseeing, I love playing here! and hopefully this would make me feel welcome and more eager to win my first ever title; wouldn't be an easy journey, but anything is possible, just go out there and play my best, like I claimed my #1 ranking
