Incredible Maky :inlove: She was running on fumes the last set, won it be sheer tenacity. She will be dead tommorrow, I am sure, but onwards anyways. :cheer:

Noisy crowd at times but terrific atmosphere! They really appreciated the tennis and were often giving standing ovation. Even one of the security staff gave Vondrousova a handshake at the end for pulling this off.

What a marathon effort from Marketa today. :worship: Even when she was cramping/limping and hit herself quite hard in the leg, she was coming up with some amazing defence and variety. That dropper and squash shot are keeping her alive.

Daria was doing a good job at moving an exhausted opponent around - really ENDLESS rallies - but at some point she (probably somewhat tired herself) just went into full Russian wall pusher mode. Not a bad idea, but Marketa was rewarded for being more aggressive and taking initiative in the rallies, even with more errors.

Have to wonder what she has left after 3 long matches. Not just all three setters but exhausting ones against dogged opponents who will test your legs (Strycova, Halep, Kasatkina), but i’d love to see her make a really deep run here.

Titanic. Absolutely titanic effort on one of the most beautiful courts in the game under the lights and before a great crowd!

Beating Halep and Kasatkina in a single day and in SIX sets of tennis, while limping and physically struggling :worship:

Amazing and GL to Marketa in the upcoming round(s)

Kasatkina is also very talented so congrats to her on a great match, too :yeah:

She should grab her pay-check and immediately head off to Paris via a one-week sojourn at a top-notch rehab facility

Daria played better than I expected, TBH.
Despite the lopsided scoreline in the 3rd set it was actually quite grueling and physical with long rallies.
Daria has infinitely better hands at the net than Halep so dropshots were not automatic points this time.
Often Marketa would have to make another shot afterwards and in a few cases Daria actually prevailed.
Marketa served for the match at 5-1 but was broken only to break back to win.

I was surprised by how lively the Italian crowd seemed to be in its support for Vondrousova!
You could hear occasional cheers for Daria as well. The atmosphere was actually really nice.
It's good for Marketa to back up her big win because she has failed to do so in the past.
This time included to added challenge of having to play again on the same day so it was really a great effort.

I think Kasatkina actually showed signs of life here as well.
Her spins were keeping some balls in when you felt they were going out!
There were two standout instances for me, one on a volley after an exchange at the net and another on a forehand down the line.
Hopefully she can take some positives away from the tournament because she definitely has talent.

That the kind of tennis I love, 2 talented players playing tennis.:inlove:

Terrific atmosphere some amazing rallies,we saw every shots you can see on a tennis court.I really thought Kasatkina had the momentum at the start of the 3rd but she just couldn't finish points as she still sucks with sitters and she refused to come to the net.

Maky fought on every points she really dug deep for this win.:worship:

Don't see an awful lot of tennis these days but very pleased I caught this one. 2 skilful players giving effort and passion, so enjoyable to watch. Seems everyone agrees

Vondrousova is just great and should go far

Credit to Dash for the close first set and the second. Didn't have enough but her season can improve

Maybe Daria Kasatkina is not as bleak for this season as some thought. Lots of people vituperated her (maybe deservedly), and even though this time Marketa has hobbled her progress, there were promising signs nonethless. I still think her mental fortitude is a bit wanting and that it's reckless of her not having a coach, but a mettlesome attitude I must say. With RG on the corner she probably won't be bereft after this.

I might be missing something but Sakkari and Azarenka winning one or two matches respectively would mean Konta being tied with Sasnovich and losing the tiebreaker by havng worst Slam and PM result. Isn't that the case?
I think if Konta was tied with Sasnovich she'd get the seed because by then she'd have 390 points from Rome - the rule is that the player with the most points from all the Premier 5, Premier Mandatory and Slams gets priority. If that's then tied, it goes on to other criteria, but in this case despite Sasnovich's Wimbledon R4 which is 240 points, Konta's 390 from Rome trumps it heavily and they're about equal everywhere else. As it's all of the points from those events combined, in this case Konta would seal it.

Most points mean sum of points surely. Sasnovich wins then. Or she doesn't but then they are not tied anymore and konta would be ahead by point total already.
