Yes, yes, yes Carla! :bounce: Even in an age where racket technology has rendered creativity on clay almost useless, it is so encouraging to see a result like this. So lovely to see someone with Carla’s skillset defeat one-dimensional bashing without any variation, where the player does not even change spin or pace.

Result of the day :worship:

Poor Yasqween loses to CSN. Very disappointed but there was a reason I think. She destroyed CSN in set one, then everything fell apart. It's ok. Her game will slay on grass.

MTO did not work today in the 3rd set <img src="http://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/oh.gif" border="0" alt="" title="oh" class="inlineimg" />
She actually was injured. Don't make fun. Your fave still has an injured hand (or does she?). ?

Carla! :worship: Gave her a tiebreak bagel and then a set bagel. :yeah:

First set she just saw balls flying passed her but throughout the second set adjusted to the pace, survived some tricky service games and took the tiebreak in style. After that she dissected the ballbasher, complete control with deep balls and great angles to move her around. Nice turnaround.

Never underestimate Carla when she digs in.

Complete collapse starting from the tiebreak. Dayana was surprisingly serving well, not being taken to break point throughout the first two sets. Could've been a whole different story if she managed to convert one of the 2 break points she had at 4-3 in the second set. Unfortunate ending as I think her mind just completely switched off, but I'm glad she gets some well-needed rest in time for the grass season.

Credit to Carla for digging deep and earning the win!

That’s the tea :worship:

So happy for Carla to come back from such a difficult match and also revenge from previous Slam R1 exit. Hopefully she’ll get some confidence from it. :bounce:

Hard to tell when she does it in just about every match she is behind in. And don't bring other players into a result thread that did not play in the match unless you want to be reported.

not that Suarez played so better than first set, she was so atrocious with return that Yastremska didn't have any problem to hold every service game. Then she wasted some chances to close the match and she completely lost her brain. This anyway is a good lesson for her

Nuremburg and Strasbourg champions both out within the space of half an hour.

Nice for Carla :yeah:

It's always tough when you play the whole week before a GS, then have to turn right around and play your 1R in the GS less than 48 hours after the previous final. So it's never suprising to see these kinds of losses.

The Grand Slams really ought to make an exception to their iron-clad top half/bottom half rule so that the prior week's finalists could play their 1Rs on Tuesday and get 2 full days of recovery.

Awful day for last week's finalists, all out in R1 so far. Dayana was the closest to winning though, and could've easily done so had she taken one of those bps at 6-2 4-3*. Carla played really well in the third though, opening some beautiful angles.

Still think Yastremska did the right thing to play in Strasbourg, she had won 1 match since Hua Hin and was in desperate need of matchplay to build some confidence back. Without last week she would've likely lost in R1 anyway, at least now she has 1 additional title and will be ready to rock on grass.
