Well good luck to her. She will still have a week off before the US Open and I guess we have to trust her and her coach that they know how many matches she can play before getting too tired.
I reckon she'll be alright - and at the moment she's playing great. She wouldn't have entered Toronto if they didn't think she could manage it. ;)

While Kim definitely is looking tired, it was as recently as 1998 that Lindsay Davenport played 4 warmup events and went on to win the U.S. Open :) It's definitely possible, especially with Serena and Jennifer out of the Open, and Venus and Amelie being in questionable form because of injuries.

They probably know what they're doing...she won't play if she's not 100% fit...but there is also the tiredness that creeps into her body and is lethal for her game ....she did run out of gas at the French Open I think....she didn't play well there at all imo....she was fit...but physicly and even more mentally tired....I just hope they keep that in mind when they make plans after todays final :)

Her coach said he wouldn't mind if she lost early this week, because then she would have more rest before the US Open. I can understand his comment, but why is she playing this tournemant when even her coach thinks she needs some rest. An early loss wouldn't effect her ranking, but she would be considered less consistent.

Do we know yet when she will play her first match? I can't decide if Tuesday or Wednesday is better. A Wednesday start gives her 2 full days of rest before starting the tournament, but a Tuesday start means she doesn't have to play 5 days in a row (if she makes the final).

Let's not worry too much about Kim playing so many matches! I bet she had an enormous mental energy boost, becoming number 1 in the world!

In her web site diary, she writes that today will be a long day because she is traveling to Toronto all day. So I can't imagine that they would have her play the very next day without the chance to train once there. Then again, you never know.

Well I think it's all up to Kim herself. She can decide whether her body can be fit enough for US open. She definitely knows how many matches she'll play to not run out of gas for US open. I think Kim is taking the US open seriously so she'll decide it carefully. I would respect and support her decision no matter what it is. :D It's not one of her worries I think. But for me, I really wanted her to win US open so badly...

I actually think the better thing would be to not play doubles at the Open. What is going to make the Open tough isn't this 4 weeks of play, it's that Kim won't have a day off the entire Open (assuming she does well in singles and doubles).

If she didn't play the doubles there, then she could have a day off every other day...

I don't think Kim will let Ai down and withdraw from the doubles though...
But it might be a wise thing to do. At least she's not playing doubles this week.

Not really sure if this belongs here but here we go. Interesting last paragraph!

Clijsters Denies Any Problem with Rival Henin

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Newly-crowned world number one Kim Clijsters says there is no problem with rival Justine Henin-Hardenne after both Belgian girls got involved in a war of words earlier this month.

French-speaking Henin-Hardenne beat Clijsters, who comes from Belgium's Dutch-speaking region, in a stormy Acura Classic final earlier this month.

After the match Clijsters accused her rival of using an injury timeout at the end of the first set to regroup.

"Really, there is no problem with Justine. We just have two different characters," Clijsters told Wednesday's Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws in an interview.

"I am more relaxed, more open. We respect each other," Clijsters said. "Moreover, Justine will also become number one soon. It's just a matter of time," she added.

Clijsters also said she considered U.S. player Serena Williams (news - web sites) -- sidelined by Clijsters from the number one spot earlier this week -- and her sister Venus Williams (news - web sites) as among her best friends.

"I don't understand that negative image of Serena and Venus. They are my best friends in the locker room. With Serena, I can talk about boys( ), music, fashion, everything outside tennis."

Clijsters said Serena even offered to design her wedding dress.

lol, indeed I was also  when I read that :p
That interview with Kim in "Het laatste nieuws" is nice ;)
For the lleyki's: we still have to wait 2-3 years before they marry (Kim want to organise the wedding by herself) and Kim also said that she hangs around with Lleyton from when she was 16 and she hasn't found a bad character trait of him :hearts: (they asked her if Lleyon complains because he can hardly win a match and she is number one ;) )
